My Summary
About Me
For as long as I can remember, I have always had a passion to help and support people having encountered personal experiences and challenges in my own life. As early as 12 years old I began babysitting in my village, eager to help out and also supporting my mum (who was a single parent) with my brother. My experiences with my brother who has challenging autism, have given me a perspective on others where I can relate to them without judgment, developing empathy and sensitivity. These experiences supported my degree studies at university, initiating my aspiration to pursue a career in the care profession greatly.
I am 24 years old and I have very keen interests in cooking, photography, art, music, cinematography, interior design, swimming, volleyball, boxing, skiing and travelling.
My Experience
My most recent job was working as a learning support assistant in a SEND school. Ultimately this position allowed me to gain hands on experience in a challenging environment. It has given me good insight into the support, children and young adults with additional needs respond to and the importance of helping them develop their independent skills through different strategies. I have learnt how to communicate with children with various social, emotional and behavioural difficulties about sensitive issues in an appropriate manner, understanding and being prepared for their responses. As a learning support assistant, I was required to be dependable and flexible to the needs of the students and staff. The vast majority of students I worked with have additional needs, therefore, consistency is key as this allowed building rapport, overcoming barriers and minimizing disruptions to the student’s daily structure and routines.
