If you’re after basic childcare with flexibility then this is a good choice.
Where it states they have a car for trips, in 18 months of childcare, these never happened.
If you’re after a childminder that gives regular updates how they’re progressing, healthy food and goes out and about this might not be the best choice.
Cheap and cheerful childminding.
I unfortunately had to go back to work full time when my daughter was 4.5 months old and we needed a childminder to look after her 2 days a week. With much trepidation I started looking for childcare and I'm forever grateful we found Emma and Nick.
They have looked after her from that tiny baby, bottle feeding, weaning, crawling, walking up to three years old running, singing, talking (always talking!) and we are only leaving as we have moved too far away to continue attending.
Emma is great, always doing fun activities with the children as well as learning. My daughter was always coming out at home time full of things she'd learned that day and with things she'd made. She's forever singing nursery rhymes, from story and rhyme time. Her speech has come on leaps and bounds and she's flourished under Emma & Nicks care.
I've felt like our daughter is with a family member when she's with Emma. She's very loving and brilliant and will be greatly missed.
I'd definitely wholeheartedly recommend
My son started at 8 months and took to Emma and her family very quickly! He is now 2 and asks me to go to Emma's on daily basis (even if he's been there that morning already). He tells me he had a good time and played and what's he's eaten that day. Emma is also great at organising festive days such as pumpkin carving and Christmas parties. She has also been great at working around my crazy work hours which has been a God send!
My daughter has made an enormous progress since started going to Emma.
New environments and people usually frighten her and it takes time for her to get adjusted.
She used to be very shy, closed in and quiet. My daughter required a lot of time, patience and attention. She was given all of that and more!
Gradually she has opened up and become happy, playful and talkative little girl.
My daughter has transformed to a completely different child!
I have always had my trust in Emma and felt that leaving my precious little girl in safe and caring hands.
I'm very grateful to Emma for all of the work she has done and would strongly recommend her to anyone.
I write this letter of recommendation with both joy and some sadness. Joy because Emma has been a fantastic childminder for our baby son, helping him blossom from a 6 month old staying away from parents for the first time till his first birthday. And I write with some sadness, because our son has to leave this setting at 1 year old simply – and only – because we have moved to a village a long way away from Shortstown and he could not cope with the daily commute.
Emma took our baby under her wing at 6 months old and has managed his transition beautifully from gummy smiles to two teeth, from breastmilk to mixed feeding to cows milk, from just milk to spoon feeding to independent eating. Under her care our son has blossomed physically, developmentally, socially and emotionally. Just a few particular points are especially important to note -
• Emma has helped shape him to be a very sociable child – we find he is so confident in his interactions. This is because she does rhymes, stories and activities with the children that help them communicate, learn and share.
• She has enabled him to learn to feed himself by offering a variety of food options alongside what we have provided and we now have a 1 year old who despite being fussy with food to start with is a curious and independent eater.
• In terms of his development, she has shaped his motor skills very well in terms of holding objects, clapping hands, standing up, waving goodbye, recognising faces and names.
• She has helped shape a well-adjusted and happy child by being there for him with lots of cuddles when teething has had him feeling grumpy, despite having other children to look after. This warmth and affection has helped our baby blossom.
• Emma has gently moulded our son into a routine – not by enforcing things on him – but rather working with him to develop a meal-play-nap routine that is individual to him and also flexible.
• And finally, we can clearly see that in all of this, she has met and exceeded the Early Years Foundational Stage recommendations for children, and has created a safe, happy, stimulating, inspiring and comfortable setting for our son and his little friends.
In all, my husband and I thoroughly recommend Emma to you. It’s the best feeling of relief when your child plunges into his chidminder’s arms happily and with a huge grin. That was our with Emma, so I have no reservations recommending her.
Emma has been looking after my daughters (8 and 4 years old) for the last three years now. My girls have a very good bond with the other children that Emma looks after. They are like an extended family.
She has got a beautifully clean and organized house. Emma is trustworthy, reliable, very kind and loving person. Her husband and children are also delightful and my girls love them as much as her.
Emma is great with children and all the children in her care are happy and enjoying time with her. Activities are always well thought out for the needs of the children she looks after. She gets the children involved in many different festivals such as Easter, Mother’s/Father’s day, Halloween and Christmas. My little girl loves cooking with her and our family loves the treats. English is my girls’ second language and the little one has learnt a lot from Emma.
Emma always keeps parents well-informed of developments with their child.
I consider myself very lucky to have found Emma and would absolutely recommend her to any parent who is looking for a reliable, honest and a very caring childminder.
Returning to work is tough for any mum, but Emma really supported our family make this transition; my husband and I couldn't be happier. Emma allowed for numerous settling in days, so our daughter could get to know the other children and environment. This ensured we felt confident with the care and reduced the guilt we felt when leaving her. Now, our daughter can not wait go and play!
The setting is clean, safe and stimulating. Numerous activities take place across the weeks, which keeps the children busy and engaged. Children are welcomed and cared for, and routines planned around the child.
Emma is flexible with timings - We're often stuck in M1 traffic! And always at the end of the phone if we need her. Communication is clear and concise, and our daughter's daily diary tells us a lovely story about her activities. We enjoyed reading her first development report.
We'd highly recommend Emma's care!

My little girl who is now 18 months has been going to Emma since she was 7months and I couldn't of asked for a better childminder! Emma provides a warm, welcoming & caring environment and my daughter loves her like a second mum. Going back to work was made so much easier for me knowing that my daughter was settled & happy with Emma. Emma provides lots of different activities to help my daughters development & is always kind & patient. I get daily updates which help keep me informed of my daughters progress & she reassures me if I have any worries which gives me peace of mind. I would recommend Emma to anyone looking for a family orientated, caring & considerate childcarer
