About Me
Hi, I’m Melanie (or Mel for short), and I’m a fun-loving mum of five! While two of my children have already flown the nest, I still have three wonderful boys (ages 16, 14, and 6) keeping things lively at home, along with my husband, Robert.
I absolutely love creating a safe, welcoming, and exciting environment where children can thrive. I believe that play is not just important but essential for development. With a mix of structure and flexibility, I aim to make sure every child feels secure, happy, and truly valued in my care.
Each day is a new adventure, with lots of opportunities to learn and grow. Whether it’s trips to the local park, strolls on the beach (just a stone’s throw away!), visits to the wildlife park, or a good run around at soft play, we always have fun and discover something new. My routine includes weekly toddler and singing groups, along with regular trips to the library, ensuring that there's always something exciting around the corner!
I love to incorporate the children’s ideas and interests into our day, whether it’s through crafts, outdoor exploration, or just having a chat about what they enjoy. My goal is to provide a stimulating, happy environment where kids can be themselves, make memories, and, most importantly, have a blast!

My Experience
With 24 years of hands-on experience caring for my own children, I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge in child development, and I’m passionate about providing the best care for little ones. My journey has included working in a local nursery with preschoolers and now, for the past 3 years, as a dedicated childminder.
I hold an Early Years Educator Level 3 qualification and am a trained Special Educational Needs Coordinator in Early Years Level 3. I’ve completed various courses including Safeguarding for Childminders, Observation, Assessment & Planning, and Managing Behavior, just to name a few! I’m also Pediatric First Aid trained, have Basic Food Hygiene certification, and have an Enhanced DBS check to ensure your child’s safety and well-being.

Our son is 2 and within his time at mel’s house, he has made significant progress with his speech and social skills. Every activity is so well thought out and her nurturing environment provides him with the love and confidence he needs to be able to come out of his shell. Updates are sent to us daily and his next steps are always extremely personal to him and show a clear understanding of his areas for development and how these woll be achieved.

Our son (16 months old) has been attending Mel’s weekly since he was 12 months. Mel has always been so caring, friendly, supportive and text book with her procedures and regulations. Mel always updates us on his day with photos and descriptions, next steps of development and learning and has a very flexible education process to suit any age of child and level. Her house is a lovely and clean right on Westbrook seafront and she always ensures that there are plenty of activities happening during the day, be it out and about or staying in and making activities. We will be attending Mel’s for years to come and we really have grown fond of her becoming a part of ours and our sons life. Thanks again Mel! We love everything that you do, it truly means a lot!

I honestly cannot recommend Mel enough.. an angel on earth and my son (16 months) absolutely adores her. She provides a nurturing environment, which meets all of his social and emotional needs, with engaging activities that have really helped his development.
We are kept in the loop with his developmental milestones and the activities that he takes part in.
It has been so nice to find someone as caring as Mel and it’s made my return to work a much easier process. I know that when I collect my son he will have the biggest smile on his face.. and not want to come home!

It is with much pleasure that I'm able to recommend Melanie as a babysitter. She has been taking care of my kids after school hours during the week days as well as doing school runs in the morning and evening. She is kind, compassionate, and always enthusiastic and willing to engage kids. Mel as we call her, always has a smile on her face and my kids love spending time with her. Always comes up with new ideas when it comes to keeping kids engaged.
Mel utilises the time that she spends with kids by teaching them good things and helping them with their homework.
I am glad we found her.
