My Summary
About Me
I live on Cedars Park with my two children.
I love my job and I know it is a privilege to be such a big part of any child's life.
I love to sing and dance with the children and to create masterpieces with little hands and feet.
I would describe myself as firm but fair, I believe children need to know their boundaries which means there are no misunderstandings and we can all have FUN!
My Experience
I started a BTEC when i was 16, but after a yr of college and 2 work placements I knew i wanted to be working with children all the time.
I left college to do my NVQ level 3 at cherry trees school. I gained experience with a variety of age groups here working with 3month - 2yrs in the baby rooms, 2yrs- 4yrs in the nursery and assisting with a holiday club for children 4yrs- 11yrs.
After just over a yr of experiencing all these age groups I chose to concentrate on caring for the babies and worked in the baby room for 4yrs.
I moved onto Just Learning nursery in Stowmarket when I was offered a supervisor position. I was in charge of 5 baby rooms taking up to 30 children between 0 and 2yrs and up to 10 nursery nurses.
After 1yr of improving the baby rooms and receiving a glowing ofsted report I decided to leave, when I missed being able to spend all my time playing with, caring for and helping to develop the children.
I became a nanny for 4 children aged between 5weeks and 9yrs. In this job I had to clean, cook and care for all the children including school runs and after school clubs. I also had to ensure they were all entertained by providing activities and games as well as arts and crafts and learning opportunities. I was in this job for 6months.
Then i struck gold.... a family I had previously cared for at Cherry Trees approached me as they now needed a nanny.
I worked full time caring for twin girls and their brother since Jan 08. This was an amazing experience the parents wanted them to be number one so I was able to provide everything the children needed to grow up happy and well rounded.
This included lots of mess and lots of giggles as well as being firm when it was needed. We all enjoyed arts and crafts and days out.
I love to be outside and I ensured the children had lots of time to be outside and enjoy there environment, and of course combining our creative play with our outdoor time.
I always made time to teach the children when they wanted to learn and I feel I have had a large part in teaching them to read and write.
when the girls started school we made sure all their homework was completed and enjoyable.
I also believe it is important for children to socialise so we attended local groups, ensuring they all provided something different. This also meant they were able to be a part of there local community and grow up with the children they would go to school with.
Eventually all 3 children were at full time school, I started working term time for 2 boys aged 9 months and 4 years. Allowing me to continue looking after my previous family in the school holidays. I continued to provide the same care and experiences for the boys as I had done my previous family. I was with them for just over 2 years until I left to have my own baby.
After Having had my son in January 2014 I felt I had learnt even more and seen things from a mothers perspective as well as a nanny's now. It gave me the opportunity to learn baby massage that can be used to help babies with wind, constipation, teething and even congestion. As well as helping toddlers and older children to relieve growing pains.
I began working for a family with 2 girls who were 4 and 7 years old. My son came to work with me and the girls loved having him there. I cared for the 4 year old all day one day a week, in this time we would go out to the park and have some time at home playing and doing arts and crafts. I also provided some educational games, helping her to learn her numbers and letters in preparation for her starting school. The other 4 days I would collect the eldest from school. We would then go onto clubs she may have or we would have some time at the park before going home to read her school books. The school did not give homework but instead suggested things to work on if they have some time to at home. From this I developed work sheets and games to assist her learning and to try and keep it fun and interesting.
When I was no longer needed in this position I decided to transition into childminding. I completed a home based childcare course and began the process to start up Expialidocious Childminding.
It is my aim as a childminder to blend all of my experiences together. Giving the personal care of a nanny, with the learning environment of a nursery.
I take the children to local groups where they can play, socialise and take part in different activities. At home I provide lots of play time and sensory experiences, not forgetting lots of arts and crafts and messy time. I also spend a lot of my day singing with the children, which is not only fun but important for there development and speech. My home is within walking distance of several play areas and I also have membership for the local museum, where we can visit the farm animals.

Katy was Nanny to our two boys for just over two years and I can't recommend her highly enough. She began working with us on a term- time basis, and right from the start she won over our boys' respect, attention and love with her firm but fair attitude, her incredible organisational skills and her infectious sense of fun. Before starting she took the time to come and visit the boys to build a rapport, and even went to the lengths of researching Star Wars (our eldest boy's favourite at the time!) so that she was able to engage with him in his games.
With our eldest she was superb at supporting his learning at home (as he was old for his year), and made up various games and activities to stretch his thirst for knowledge. She was particularly impressive when it came to school projects; our Olympic Scarecrow was amazing and widely admired! She also sought out clubs and activities which tied in with our boys' interests and strengths, finding a trampolining activity for our eldest sporty boy and a great music group for our youngest, as just two examples. She nurtured our youngest from being a large and lazy 9-month old, through the crawling and stumbling stages, until finally supporting us with the potty- training challenges in her final summer with us. All the time she was such a wise support to us as parents; her wealth of experience really does show for all the different stages of development.
So many other parents have commented to me about how impressive Katy is in her role; many have said that they assumed she was the parent of my children due to the amazing bond she displayed with them and the obvious love they have for her. The teachers at the boys' school also said that they had never seen a better nanny: she would attend meetings at school if I couldn't go and feed the information back; she would speak to the teachers of any concerns we may have and help to resolve issues; and she would manage the homework routine and various organisational challenges of school life with skill. She would also attend Nativity Plays, sports days and concerts on her days off.
Universally adored by all children she comes into contact with, Katy is an outstanding Nanny. From establishing routines to organising fun days out, she is honestly the best nanny you could ever hope for. We continue to miss her terribly and are so happy to be able to meet up with her and her lovely son on a regular basis for play dates.
