Two highly qualified and experienced members of staff make Team Midget Gems Childcare what it is today. We are a very unique and extra ordinary childcare provider in the original Richmond, in North Yorkshire. We are celebrating our 18th year in business.
Midget Gems Childcare is delighted to be the Winner of ORBTA's Business Excellence Award, First and Best, Personal Services.
We are open on a Term Time only basis.
We are a Twice OFSTED OUTSTANDING, small private nursery setting.
We are located at the bottom of St Nicholas Drive in Richmond, convenient for the Schools.
We have immediate access to woodland and incorporate Forest School and Eco School Sessions into our day.
We have a maximum of 9 children each day, with a staff ratio of One Key Person to three children.
We use the Online Learning Journal called Tapestry. This gives you daily updates on your child's activities and development in The Early Years Foundation Stage. We value Parent's input and feedback too.
Our ethos is to create great interactions for children in the world around them, and to keep them safe.
We have landscaped the outdoor area to incorporate Forest School Sessions,a Mud Kitchen and we have immediate access to wonderful woodland.
I work with an amazing Assistant, Rebecca Smart who started with us on 1st July 2021 on a work experience basis and we are delighted to say that she passed her NCFE Cache Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner in July 2022 and in July 2024 Rebecca achieved her Level 3 Early Years Educator Diploma.
Rebecca also holds an International Tourism Management Degree and is Mum to two girls, Daisy and Rosie who have both attended Midget Gems since 2014 !
We offer an extraordinary place for your child to be whilst you are at work.
We offer up to 30 hours free childcare per week to all eligible 2 year olds, 3 and 4 year olds.
We also have an active Before and After School Club, serving Richmond Methodist School and St Mary's R.C.- this facility is ideal for siblings and children who like to leave school at 330pm !
Midget Gems Childcare is delighted to be celebrating almost 18yrs in Childcare, another spectacular achievement, after what we have all been through !!!!
Our vision is to provide a unique, dynamic setting where all children can experience an amazing time.
The setting is home based and we are just half a mile to the local schools, Richmond Methodist and St Marys R.C .
The children have freedom of choice and plenty of space, the whole of the top floor of the house is dedicated to Midget Gems Childcare. The children can move between" two" fantastic purpose built playrooms, each of which is fully equipped with a diverse range of resources and has plenty of natural light and fresh air ventilation.
At Midget Gems Childcare we love to spend a lot of time outdoors in our Forest School setting, the adjacent ancient woodland, the Christmas Tree Garden and our outdoor buildings.
Midget Gems has a great partnership with parents and other professionals in the area. We want you to feel happy and confident that you have chosen the right people to care for your child. We embrace the Early Years Foundation Stage.

I regularly ask the views of children and their parents/carers about what it is like to be a child and parent at Midget Gems, my experience is moved forward with their partnership, allowing me to continue to provide an outstanding service.

My Qualifications
I have attended well over 100 training courses in 18 years. I have also achieved a NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development. I have up to date Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding, Child Protection, SENCO, Health and Safety and Food Hygiene.I am committed to continuing professional development in Childcare and have completed Forest School Session Training and Shared Sustained Thinking and Emotional Well Being for 2 - 5 year olds.
I have attended training on Raising the awareness of children and young people who have a sensory impairment or physical development.
Both team members at Midget Gems are proactive in ensuring they regularly achieve Continuing Professional Development.

My Fees
- Childminding from £8.00 per hour
£70 for a full day or £44 for our 0915am to 245pm sessions.
Additional hours charged at £8 per hour.
£12.75 for After school collection and £8.75 for Before School Club.
Or, up to 30 hours free entitlement to parents with children from 9 month old.
We also accept payment by Kiddivouchers, Edenred, Care4, Fidelity, Computer Share and Sodexo Childcare Vouchers.

Our daughter has been going it Midget Gems for nearly a year now and is really enjoying it. She has made lots of friends and never wants to leave when we go to pick her up. They have been very flexible and supportive to us recently as we have had some health problems in the family and it has been great to have that support. Our daughter loves the range of activities that they do there and the diary that they keep is brilliant.

My 3 year old son has been going to Sarah and Zoe since Easter 2013. He now attends 3 days a week using the childcare vouchers. He loves going and always comes home with a huge smile and full of the adventures he has been on. Sarah and Zoe are amazing, they care about every child. They take them out and about but also uses the garden and fantastic play rooms at the house. I receive a daily diary telling me what he has been doing and I also write things in to help them talk to my child about what he has been doing at home.

Sarah has been providing before and after school pick up for my daughter since February this year. My daughter settled in very easily. I do think this was because of Sarah's fantastic setting for her business and Sarah's very obvious love and enjoyment of the work she does. Sarah is also flexible where possible and very professional. I would not hesitate to recommend her.

Sarah and Zoe look after my 9 month old boy. They are both very personable yet professional. They have a wonderful set up with plenty of play area and areas to learn. The children are also taken out for days out. I am very pleased with the service they provide.

Our son has been attending Midget Gems for after school care, with some additional sessions in the holidays. He is always happy to go and whenever we collect him he is immersed in an activity enjoying himself. Often he wants to stay rather than come home. For those times he's been for a full day he has taken part in many wonderful activities.
It is a real home from home atmosphere and I would recommend Midget Gems to anyone.
