About Me
Hi, my name is Gaylene McLoughlin, I am an OFSTED registered childminder and was graded "Good" by Ofsted in November 2022. I have lived in Coulsdon for 16 years with my Husband Paul and 3 children, 2 girls aged 18 and 17 and a boy aged 16. We 2 have 2 lovely cats called Obi and Jinx and 2 rabbits - Teddy and Koda
We live in a 4 bedroom house on Grove Lane, with a large secure walled garden with plenty of play equipment including Play house, swings, slide, rockers, sand/water play etc, and are within easy walking distance to Woodcote Primary School.
I regularly attend local play groups, messy/soft play sessions and go on park/farm outings with my mindees. I meet up with fellow minders each day, and so all of the children we look after know each other well and get to mix with lots of other children their own age.
I love spending time with my children, although they are a bit older now, I still enjoy playing and interacting with children on their level and enjoy working with children of all ages.
I want the children to feel as comfortable in my home as possible. I will make their day's as varied as possible, whilst following 7 areas of learning within the EYFS framework.
I grew up on a farm in Australia, and spent a vast majority of my childhood outdoors, therefore feel that it is important for children to be able to explore the environment and learn as they play. Obviously while keeping them safe, but I think this is also a good way for them learning for themselves, right from wrong. I think it is great to be able to let a child to get messy, climb a tree, or dig in the dirt.
My Experience
I did several placement's of work experience at Nursery's whilst at school in Australia, before leaving and becoming a hairdresser.
I came to the UK in 1997 and after traveling, worked for a Private Equity company in London until I had my third child, when I was made redundant.
With my 2nd daughter about to start full time education, and more time on my hands, I began the process of becoming a Registered Childminder so that I could work with children, which is something that I have always wanted to do.
I believe you can get no better experience than "hands on", which I certainly have had with my 3 children, I still learn something new from them each day.
My Qualifications
I have completed my CHIP Childminding course with Surrey County Council and have a current Pediatric First Aid Certificate.
