My Summary
Private Tutor In Cardiff
About Me
Hi! My name is Diane and I am a qualified teacher who now works as a Nursery/Primary School Home Tutor. I am based in North Cardiff.
I am a happily married mother and have 3 daughters, all of whom have sadly flown the nest. I was fortunate to teach my youngest child in her early years in school and she has recently graduated as a Doctor of Medicine from Cambridge University. One of my own children is actually dyslexic. She was fortunate to have some wonderful teachers and we were all instrumental to her progress with reading and her love of books. This has continued into her adult life.
The children have now all moved on to pastures new. Peace was briefly restored.
We then acquired a Grandson living with us , alongside our two Siamese cats! My husband and I are also fortunate to have lots of other grandchildren to keep us busy and spoil.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, yoga, walking and spending time with my family.
I am extremely organized, and this is reflected in both my home and work life. I always give 100% to anything and everything that is important to me, and this is shown in my attention to detail with the programmes that I plan for pupils and the work that they do.
I am a qualified teacher who began my career , teaching in a Primary School in Barry. I also worked as a supply teacher when my girls were younger and then I finally settled at an independent School in Penarth, Cardiff for over 20 years. I taught a range of different year groups. (Nursery, Key Stages 1 and 2) so have experience of working with children of different ages, abilities and needs.
Unfortunately I was made redundant after many happy years of teaching .At this point it gave me a chance to reflect on what i wanted to do. I turned a negative into a positive and started working 1:1 with a child who had autism, alongside tutoring.
All of this has given me a great perspective on children. Every child is unique and should be given a chance to develop at their own rate, in their own way and achieve success. I am passionate about Education and every child reaching their full potential.
I have now taken the decision to retire from school and concentrate on working at home doing something I love - Working as a Home Tutor.
Lessons are carried out in my home on a regular weekly basis. They are planned individually for your child, catering for their requirements.
I am also available over School holidays.
I am keen to provide alongside parents and school, additional support that will enable all children to gain in confidence and achieve success.
With regards to my tutoring work, I usually teach English and reading.
I am able to include some Maths teaching in lessons, for pupils who are in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, if requested.
Reading and developing reading skills is something I am particularly interested in. I am passionate about all children being introduced to reading in a positive, rewarding and enjoyable way. I am particularly keen to promote the phonic approach. I believe all children should be given the opportunity to develop their reading skills alongside promoting a love of books and reading.
Development and improvement in handwriting, comprehension skills, spelling, grammar, etc. are areas of English that are covered in lessons.
In all lessons pupils are motivated and praised, which promotes self-esteem and progress.
My Experience
I have experience of teaching in Local Education Authority schools and also worked as a class teacher for over 20 years in an independent school in the Cardiff area.
I have taught Nursery, Foundation Phase, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. I also have experience of teaching English Second Language pupils and children with Additional Learning Needs.
As a mother of 3 children, as well as being sensitive and experienced with dealing with children, I can also relate to the needs of parents.
Lots of my experience and skills as a mother and teacher I have found to be invaluable and this has definitely been of great benefit with the work I do .
Children are unique individuals and every day they put a smile on my face. I genuinely love spending time working with them and being involved in their development.
