About Me

My name is Melissa I’m a British citizen and I have recently moved back from Australia after a year away. On my own motivation under the goal to explore a new country, its culture and seek employment in the childcare industry. Following an amazing year, I returned to the UK and was employed in two amazing short-term roles before my current nanny role.

I have recently set up my own sleep consultant business - Counting sheep sleep consultant- I’m a fully qualified sleep consultant and have a great range of packages available for all ages. If you are looking for a good nights sleep please get in touch.

I have six years of experience working with children in addition to several relevant qualifications, including Services for Children and Young People, National Certificate in Early Education and Childcare SCQF level 6, infant, children and adult First Aid, Scottish disclosure checked and an Australian working with children’s card. I am a non-smoker and hold a relevant, clean driver’s licence.

I am an enthusiastic, hardworking, trustworthy, dedicated individual with a high level of attention to detail. My work is of a high standard, I have excellent problem-solving skills and can manage many problems that come my way.

As a competent multitasker, listening and taking direction is important to me. I enjoy the daily challenges of working with children and having to use my imagination every day to make each activity fun and interesting. I love bringing story books alive, connecting with children on their level and singing nursery rhymes over and over.

I believe I can provide guidance to all children and sympathise with individuals of different educational needs. I am a competent cook and pride myself in cleanliness. The well-being and happiness of a family employing me is paramount to my work ethic. I hope I can create a fairer and more diverse future through my way of teaching.

Please find attached my resume, feel free to contact me for further information. I eagerly await your response.

Kind regards,
Melissa

My Experience

Private Nanny (live out) August 2020- present

I currently have b1 he was 8 months when I started. We go on lots of days out to the zoo, parks and classes. We have worked though sleep regressions and tricky meal times. We are on an amazing routine now and I have a very happy boy Monday-Friday. We do lots of fun messy activities on our turf tray and enjoy daily learning experiences

Private Nanny (live in) February 2020 – July 2020

When accepting my current nanny job, it was before lockdown due to COVID-19. The job I was offered changed due to current conditions. Before lockdown I worked mornings getting G8 and B7 ready for school, dressed breakfast, school bags packed. I would then take over with G4months we attended monkey music, baby sensory classes, went for daily walks and lots of activities to encourage gross and fine motor skills. I would then collect the older children from school via public transport, have dinner and get the night-time routine started. I would do all nanny related duties throughout the day.

When lockdown happened in the UK, like everyone we were all in the house together. Parents both work from home office and children managed to do schoolwork via remote learning on the iPad. My daily routine changed to meet the needs of the three children. This included doing at home baby classes, helping with schoolwork and getting older children organised for the day in the house. I also do a lot more cooking as the full family were home for every meal which was an advantage as I’ve been able to learn more creative menus. I take care of all baby’s basic daily needs: bottle feeding, weaning (puree and baby led), bedtime routine including bath. I’ve got baby into a sleep routine following the Gina Ford method. I get all children out for exercise daily and enjoy doing “messy” play in the afternoon. I learned a lot during this job working with older children out my comfort zone and thanks to lockdown I got to do amazing activities and have fun with the older children who would usually be at school. Unfortunately, this current family are planning to travel to Europe with an uncertain date to return to the UK.

Private Nanny (daily) December 2019- January 2020

While looking for a long-term job, I had the pleasure of working for a lovely family with 4month old twin boys and B3. Mum needed guidance and advice having a wild toddler and twins. I had an amazing time working with the three boys, I had planned fun activities indoors including baking and crafts. I cared for the twins taking care of all their basic needs; bottle feeding, bath time, nappy changes and settling them as both suffered with colic. I helped around the house usually with a baby attached in a sling. Nothing was better than getting all the boys out the house a walk or to a baby class. My first experience with twins was as wonderful as I could have imagined.

Private Nanny (live in) November 2019- December 2019

I was a live-in nanny for a busy household over the festive period. Mum required extra help as the three children were close in age G12, E10 and V10. Every morning my routine would be to make children breakfast, get bags and sports kit in the car as well as making the packed lunch. When the children were at school, I then completed household tasks including but not limited to; washings, ironing, changings beds, organizing wardrobes, food preparation and other household duties. I would occasionally do school run and homework with the children one to one. I would make dinner for everyone and then start the bedtime routine with V. I would tidy up the kitchen and any other rooms before finishing for the night. I completed many Personal Assistant tasks throughout the Five weeks and helped mum with personal tasks.

Due to the visa I held I could only work each family in Australia a maximum of six months.

Private Nanny (live in)- March 2019- September 2019

The family I worked for reached out to me asking me to be their live in Nanny. They stayed in Perth Australia. The family have a two-year-old who attends day-care and only need me two full days and two days part time, they required a sole charge nanny to work around day-care hours. I loved having C and she’s an amazing little girl. C has lots of planned Activities we attended swimming lessons, baby dance, gymbaroo and playgroups. We sing songs and as read books when we aren’t busy baking, painting and having outdoor fun. I’m constantly trying to engage with C and encourage her motor skills (gross and fine). I do the weekly food shop, meal prep for the adults and C. I also organise the household including but not limited to the kitchen, wardrobes and Cs toys, books and games. Me and C had an amazing bond and I loved spending time with her.

Private Nanny (live out) – April 2019 – September 2019

While living in Perth two days a week I was a nanny/mothers help for a family with two young children, H was sixteen months and S was four weeks (at start day). Having a new-born and a very busy toddler the family needed an extra set of hands and someone with a qualification that can give advice, so I was the perfect fit. I mostly had sole care for S and took care of all her basic needs; bottle feeding, nappy chances, burping. As she was getting older, I arranged more interactive time and I’ve introduced tummy time from the start. I’ve helped to sleep-train S and get into a better routine following “Save Our Sleep” routine. I also took H to playgroups and kindy-gym while also having S with me, so I’m experienced in having two young children in my care. I make meals and plan for H and the family; I also organise the household and plan future routines for the children.

Private Nanny (live in) – September 2018- March 2019

I made a life decision January 2018 to move to Australia and seek employment in the childcare sector. I met an amazing family online and spoke weekly until I arrived September 2018, this family worked in rural Australia meaning they had no family members, so I had long days and was very needed. I was their live in Nanny for 6 months. The parents both had very demanding jobs in the police force. I worked shifts weekly including nights. I nannied for two girls H who was 4 and Z who was 11 months. Being qualified gave them confidence in me due to the family having young children. I was part of the family, but we had a good work/family relationship that worked well. I made daily activities for the children and my experience came as a great advantage. I have a very big imagination and I make educational activities encouraging, allowing both children to learn from taking part in them. We would do lots of creative activities as well as musical and physical. I was part of the family, but I done my job very well and loved doing it. I also do daily cleaning around the house just like the rest of the family.

Student experience- September 2017- July 2018

As part of my qualification I spent part of the week in placement I was in the three to five room in both placements. I was welcomed with open arms and part of the staff right away I had amazing mentors to guide me though my time in the nurseries I learned lots and I put all my skills to work from college. Every day I wrote personal learning experience this included the purpose of why I was doing the activity I had chosen and also a learning outcome (curriculum for excellence or pre-birth to three) by the end of my year at college I had to hand in 80 planned learning experience’s I had completed with the children over the space of the year. I was in charge of my own group of six children and I planned their daily learning for example how to hold a Pencil (fine motor skills), skip and jump (gross motor skills), throw and catch a ball (hand eye coordination), speech and listening skills. I loved going into the nursery each day having created fun and educational activities to suit each child in my group. I was professional in many difficult situations I had to handle while in the nurseries.

Private Nanny – (live out)- January 2017- September 2017

In Scotland I worked for an amazing family with a 5-month-old child. I was the soul caretaker for A and would work long days. I had a schedule to follow with A due to parents working long days. I would do the weekly shops, house cleaning and other household duties around the house. We spent a lot of time out the house going to parks, zoo’s and playgroups. I would look care for all of A’s basic needs including but not limited to making/ sterilising bottles, changing nappies, making purées and transferring A to solids.

Melissa is an amazing babysitter, my daughter absolutely loves her. She is a natural with kids and you can tell right away how much she loves kids. Melissa was the first person to watch my little girl so I could go on my first night out after becoming a Mum.
