About Me

I'm a cheerful and lively individual who enjoys a good giggle. Singing is one of my passions, whether it's belting out show tunes, pop hits, or nursery rhymes. As a mom, I've come to appreciate how fleeting the early years of childhood are and how precious those moments with our little ones truly are. Seeing the world through my child's eyes has helped me value the little things in life even more.

My Experience

Before having my daughter, I was a HLTA for almost 3 years where I would class share with a part time foundation teacher twice a week. I also covered classes for assessment release, sickness and PPA. While class sharing with the foundation teacher, I would contribute to planning and help create/prepare resources for the lessons I taught. We’d hold weekly meetings to go through planning, discuss children’s progress and review any children that needed additional support. Other duties included marking class work and helping children with next steps in their learning.
I also organised after school activities which included multi-sport sessions, school pantomimes and a dance club. In addition to this, I used my interest and knowledge of music to produce, record and edit a song which featured the children from Foundation singing “Reach for the stars”. This was then sold as a CD for a school fund raising project. Working with children in this way, fills me with joy and satisfaction, and is a style which I’d be looking to carry over into my future roles.
I studied a BA Hons Early Years degree at the University of Essex for 3 years, which not only taught the fundamentals of teaching, but also educated on the laws and codes of practice that are applicable when working with children. I’ve also learnt a great deal about children’s development and learning strategies.
Whilst on the course, I also completed a work placement twice a week at a variation of environments. One was at a family home, another at a Montessori nursery and a further three were at primary schools, teaching a range of different year groups.
I also studied musical theatre at college, which boosted my self confidence. In addition to performing in front of an audience, other studies covered the theatre industry as a whole, self discipline and working to strict deadlines. I widened my imagination through my own performances (singing, dancing and acting) and also helped run and delivered singing lessons to a children’s musical theatre group. I continue to perform in my spare time and recently completed a run of 10 shows of an adaptation of the Disney musical, The Little Mermaid. I’m always keen to acquire new skill sets, which more recently including meditation and yoga.
Working in the role as an Early Years Practitioner has helped to increase my stamina and continual concentration that’s required to work long hours in the care of children. It also gave me the experience of working as part of a team.
My previous role as an LTA had changed over the years. I took on additional workload and extra responsibilities above and beyond the original role. Not only did I support the same amount of children that were originally assigned to 2 LTA’s, but I had more involvement in planning the days activities. In addition to this, I taught phonics to groups of children and also covered entire classes when extra support was required. As my knowledge of the role and peoples confidence in my abilities have grown, they gave me more of a creative input into planning future topics and lessons. I feel that this further developed my confidence and has made me more intuitive in my forward thinking, allowing me to work more independently.
