My Summary
About Me
My name is Rachael Elizabeth, I'm a Student Nurse from Knowsley . I am kind, patient, loving and caring. I have good time keeping and am very organised and tidy. I have my own car so am able to travel to you!
My Experience
Through my role as a Student Nurse I have worked with children and young people of all ages ranging from newborns to teenagers. I have worked with children in a wide array of clinical areas including urgent care, continuing care, mental health and learning disability settings. As such, I have experience of caring for children who are generally unwell and those with varying degrees of serious health problems including learning disabilities, cardiovascular, respiratory and neurological problems, skin conditions and those with PEG, NG and NJ feeding tubes. My role is to support the child and their family through difficult times as well as maintain their safety and wellbeing. Although this role is clinical, I enjoy getting to know the children I care for though games, building, painting, dancing and talking. I feel that in order to best care for a child, it is important to get to know them and to tailor my work to their needs. Additionally, I regularly babysit for friends and relatives where the children enjoy arts and crafts, baking and day trips to parks, museums and libraries.
Prior to this, I completed an A-Level in Health and Social Care. As part of this course I spent a week completing work experience in a local primary school. I spent the week with Key Stage 1 students and supported them in their learning. I worked with small groups of children who were struggling to aid in improving their reading and mathematics skills. I had to ensure that the children were fully engaged in the activities, understood the tasks and aided them if they were struggling. This was an extremely rewarding experience which gave me insight into working alongside children. Furthermore, I volunteered as a Scout Leader at 1st Prescot Scout Group during my time in college. This was a position of both trust and responsibility as well as being a fun and informative experience for myself and the children. I worked with the Beavers (ages 6-8 years) and the Scouts (age 10-14 years). In this position, I developed further upon my teamwork and communication skills. My main responsibilities included planning lessons, organising trips, arranging guest speakers and safeguarding, as well as awarding the children with the badges they had earned. I thoroughly enjoyed my work with the Scout Association and feel it helped me to develop both personally and professionally.
