About Me
I am a fully qualified nursery nurse with 29 years childcare experience. I registered as a childminder in January 2009 and have a daughter aged 20 and a son aged 15. I am graded GOOD by Ofsted and my last inspection was in May 2019.
I live in a lovely street very close to Pinderfields Hospital in the Parklands area. My house is a modern end 3 storey townhouse. I use the whole of the ground floor for childminding. I have a large dedicated playroom which is full of toys for all ages. I also have a very safe secure garden which is an extension of the playroom and has been fitted with artificial grass which is fantastic for babies and toddler to play on. There is ride on cars, various slides and play equipment for young and older children. I offer competitive prices in a loving and caring home environment. I also attend various toddler groups throughout the week so the children get to mix with others and get used to being in a larger group of children. In the school holidays we go out for the day to the farm, soft play centres, various parks and lots of other lovely places.
Finally, I can provide excellent references from my long term parents who are all happy to. recommend me in addition to my reviews on here.
My Experience
I have worked as a nanny, a playgroup leader and a senior nursery nurse over the last 29 years since qualifying as a nursery nurse.
Registered as a childminder in January 2009.
Of course the 'real' experience is bringing up my own children alongside the ones I childmind for. We are one big happy family together!
Most of my previous nursery experience is caring for babies and I have a particular soft spot for little ones but I welcome any age child into my setting.
My Qualifications
GNVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
BTEC National Diploma (level 3) in Nursery Nursing
Introduction to Home Based Childcare.
Paediatric First Aid
Food Hygiene
Child Protection.
EYFS training.
Safeguarding Children Level 3
Bronse Kitemark in Inclusion
Funded children accepted from 9 months to 3 years.
Registered for the government Tax Free Childcare scheme.
My Availability
I work with my husband Glen, he is my assistant, and like myself has completed the Introduction to Childminding course, First Aid and Safeguarding. We make a great team and the children love having a male role model to play with as well! Our daughter Hollie is also a registered assistant and helps to cover school runs and busier periods as well.
We offer a wrap around service to and from Stanley Grove Primary School for children who attend full days. All children are taken in our car and we have a reserved space on the driveway opposite the school so no walking far in in bad weather!
Please note that we only offer term time places for children who attend school.
We are currently full.
From early next year we will be taking bookings for places that will be available from September 2025.

My son has come on so much since attending Barney Bear childminding. He’s so happy and even though at the start he used to get a little upset he now toddles in and goes to play very comfortably. I wouldn’t be happier with the care and attention he receives.
Thank you.
My Son Jack has been at Barneybear since he was 8 months old . As a parent barneybear is what you are looking for friendly and homely environment .
Gemma and Glen have been looking after my daughter Elicia full-time since she was 6 months old, she is now 14 months old. I could not have asked for better childminders, they have always treated her as part of the family and Elicia has thrived over the time spent in their care. I was extremely nervous and upset leaving Elicia with people I didn’t really know, having to go back to work but Gemma and Glen made the transition so easy for us. Elicia has never had separation anxiety, she loves being with them and she has learned so much from them and the other children. They have never let me down, are extremely reliable, operate a home from home environment, regularly go to toddler groups, take the children out and about to interesting places and genuinely offer a very loving, friendly, caring environment. Health and safety are also at the heart of everything they do and I have peace of mind at work every day knowing Elicia is in their care. We are so sad to be leaving, my career has taken me back down South to my home town of Southampton. If I could take Gemma and Glen with me I would. I would recommend these lovely people to anyone who is looking for a childminder, you will be very lucky to have them.
Thank you both for all you have done for us. We will miss you xx

I was dreading returning to work after having my first child and leaving Finn with a stranger and after visiting several different settings became even more panicked by the thought. This was put to rest on my first visit to Barney bear due to the warm welcoming environment that greets you. As a early years teacher I loved the fact each child has their own peg and that there were pictures celebrating the children's achievements. Gemma and Glen have been fabulous with Finn and me. Gemma was fab and very patient when I explained about how I like to lay him down, give him his bottle and even ridiculous things which you worry no one will do like you! All my first time mum worries disappeared when he cried when I went to pick him up. I love the fact that Finn has been made to feel like a member of the family and cant believe how much he has developed. He loves looking for Tiger the cat as we arrive on a morning and is always warmly welcomed. Both Gemma and Glen both have a real love for the children in their care and what they do and on an evening when I pick Finn up I find myself stopping longer due to the friendly environment they have created. Going back to work has been much easier than I'd ever have thought possible due to the high quality care and fabulous experiences Barney Bear offers Finn.

Thank you so much for those lovely comments :) We love Finn to bits and are so pleased you chose us. He is definitely part of our family too and we can't wait to see him again after the summer break.
Thank you again :)
My son Ayan started going to Gemma's when he was around a year old.I had a difficult experience with the nursery with him catching lots of infections and dropping weight. From the time he started going to Gemma she took extra care making sure that she offered him different things if he refused. He settled in very well with Gemma and I can see that he is eager to go.
Gemma provides a good playroom for the children which is full of age appropriate toys and most importantly her premises are clean and organised. She takes them out on a daily basis to toddler groups. Ayan has been going to Gemma for six months now and in my experience Gemma has been very professional but understanding and accommodating at the same time. All the children seem to have a good time and Ayan enjoys playing with Luke, Dylan, Nikki and Tigger(the cat!). I feel delighted everyday when I go to pick Ayan and see these happy little faces.
Gemma is one of the best childminders around and I would strongly recommend her to anybody who is looking for one.
