About Me

SEN 1:1

I provide one to one study skills tuition to children, enabling them to develop independent learning strategies to compensate for their learning difference.
Please do not hesitate to contact me.

SEN Teaching is tough, but can be so rewarding. It can be overwhelming trying to deliver the curriculum, understand and meet all the additional needs, stretch the most able, interpret data etc etc. However, research proves that single most important thing a teacher can do for their pupils is have a positive relationship with them, and this is even more important if that child has ADHD / ASD or other additional needs. Our pupils need to be built up, not knocked down if they are different or struggling. Sometimes it is the little things, a smile, gesture, kind word that you do instinctively that can transform the experience of a young person.

I was reminded of this truth when I received a message from a girl I helped many moons ago, she wrote

'I'm not even sure you would remember me because I was quite quiet but I always felt so encouraged by you... you gave children like me (who didnt always naturally fit in) a voice and made me feel like i was ok to have a different. I just wanted to let you know you really did make a difference and thank you for inspiring me and building me up!'

She is now in senior school, I feel confident she will be a tremendous asset to her friends, their families and the whole school community.

Keep up the good work to all teachers! It is a challenge, but so rewarding when you see that you have made a difference. You have the opportunity to transform....
