My Summary
About Me
I am a kind and caring person, who very much believes in child centered care. I am gentle, patient, honest and loyal. I believe in a nurturing approach with children and I very much enjoy story telling, reading, creativity, imagination and being outdoors in nature as a way of fostering and encouraging children's happiness and their developmental potential. I am able to plan and deliver phonics lessons from set 1, 2 and 3. I can deliver reading coaching and all aspects of key stage 1 English, including handwriting, spelling and grammar. I particularly love creative writing and I am able to encourage children to use their imaginations in their story telling and improve their descriptive vocabulary.
My Experience
I have 6 and a half years of experience working with children. 3 years in a voluntary capacity with a charity that helps primary school children with their reading and 2 and a half years in a paid role, working as a teaching assistant for key stage 1 in a primary school. In this capacity I have also worked with reception aged children. I have undergone various types of training, mostly educationally centered, this also included safeguarding and official Read Write Inc. Ruth Miskin phonics training and daily delivery of phonics teaching sessions and one to one reading sessions. I also worked as an Au Pair in Paris France for 3 months for 3 children aged 3, 5 and 8. I have had experience working with children with SEN and I am able to tailor learning to their needs, particularly dyslexia. In addition to this I now have 8 months experience in a paid role as a nanny with phonics tutoring.
I am currently working as a part-time nanny in a private household, providing sole care for a 2 year old and a 4 year old. They were 1 and 2 respectively when I commenced my role. Alongside my nanny duties which include providing snacks and drinks for the children, as well as preparing and cooking their evening meal, bathing them and preparing them for their bedtime. As well as vacuuming their bedrooms and washing and changing their bed linen. I also read lots of books with them, play games, sing nursery rhymes, do arts and crafts, baking, encouraging use of their imagination through story telling and helping to improve their vocabulary and their knowledge and learning about the world around them. We have also grown beans, peas and giant sunflowers together and the children have observed and eaten the resulting produce, often with great interest and curiosity. We have also gone on lots of adventures together to the local playground, various cafe's and the local Country Park and large playground.
In addition to this I have taught phonics to the 3 year old using the official Ruth Miskin (Read, Write, Inc system). I tailored the system to suit his developmental and cognitive learning stage, (he was 3 years and 10 months when I started teaching him). I also worked with him on his reading, gross motor skills and handwriting. He has responded extremely well and is now able to make simple 3 letter words with magnetic letters, read small words and sound them out with help and independently. He is also now able to write his name neatly and beautifully by copying on a whiteboard and he can also have a good go at doing this independently now. In this way I have helped to prepare him for his school learning of Set 1 phonics, which will commence this September when he starts reception/foundation at Primary School.
My Qualifications
BA Hons Geography Royal Holloway University of London.
3 A levels and 9 G.C.S.E's.
