My Summary
About Me
Hello! I'm Sonya and I am a qualified teacher. I have various experiences from mainstream schooling, working in the early years as well as private settings/families. I have been working in education/nannying since 2016. I adore working with children as it is a real passion of mine being able to give and help but also, having fun. I'm very flexible and reliable.
My Experience
Practitioner – School in Hackney May 2015 – June 2015
I worked in a reception class where I assisted the class teacher with various roles such as helping to conduct play, planning phonics lessons, reading in small groups and contributing to maths lessons by organising different ways to teach. I also worked with children individually to help with their development and meeting their individual needs.
Reading Mentor – School in Hackney January 2017 – February 2017
During this role, I helped with assisting the class with their lessons such as maths, English, science, history and R.E. I helped with planning lessons and working in small groups, making sure they understood the work and giving them extensions when needed. I also worked with an individual child as her reading mentor. I enhanced her learning by making educational tools such as phonics games, sentence games from the book she was reading to help with improvement.
Practitioner – Nursery February 2018 – May 2018
I worked in a nursery with children ranging from 6 months to 5 years old. I lead circle time sessions, planned activities with key persons and planned educational outdoor activities such as nature walks. I worked in small groups with the children helping them with their phonics and learning to write their names. I also work with the children individually to help understand what stage they were at and help set goals and targets to help develop and improve learning.
Practitioner – Nursery June 2018 – September 2018
I worked closely with toddlers/pre-school and worked closely with two key persons in a team to help manage and teach the toddlers/pre-schoolers. I also conducted some extra-curricular activities such as sports school and took part in tapestry which has developed my understanding of childrens milestones and how to reach these.
Nanny - J Family
October 2018 - July 2019
I worked with two children, a girl aged 8 and a boy aged 10. This role consisted of school pick up/holidays, making the children some tea and then getting them ready and taking them to their after school curricular activities such as swimming and drama. I also helped the children with their homework, reading and spellings as well as taking them out to the local parks, playing boardgames and supporting their development.
SEN Support Staff - Year 1
School in Camden
September 2019 - July 2020
This role consisted of myself working with an autistic child on a one to one basis where I supported him emotionally, socially and academically. I supported his social needs and making lessons and activities more inclusive for him. We worked together to develop his language and communication skills as well as being more confident. We did many activities together such as ball games, cutting activities, playing outside, reading books and comprehension activities.
Part Time Nanny - T Family July 2021
This role includes caring for two children (6 and 4 years old) including one with special educational needs. I planned and prepared activities during half term for the little boy to encourage his speech and language skills as well planning educational trips for him. I also cared for his little sister, taking her out to local parks, libraries and taking part in many arts and crafts activities.
