About Me

I am a PhD student at the University of Reading studying History with four years of experience in childcare.

I am comfortable caring for children from infancy until adolescence but am particularly experienced with children around the upper KS2 years (9, 10, and 11-year olds). However I have professionally cared for children as young as 3. I am also an animal-lover and happy to look after domestic pets as part of my time with the family. I am competent in untaking all of the duties traditionally associated with the role including meal prep, bedtime and morning routines, facilitating playtime, arranging playdates, supervising chores and homework, and driving/collecting children from hobbies. I hold a full, clean UK driving licence and have my own car.

During my work in a primary school, I have become very familiar with the curriculum for the final stages of primary school (state). I am happy to help children with their prep as well as provide private tutoring in Maths and English. I specialised in Maths SAT support, spending most of my time supporting students with their word problems, as this is often the biggest challenge during their exams. I am happy to adapt, read new curriculums and institutional requirements to provide tutoring support for students in areas I am less experienced in. For the past year I have tutored adults whose second language is English and also am a part-time sessional lecturer for undergraduates at the University of Reading.

I am also comfortable in assisting with light household activities in addition to my other roles. These can be regular housekeeping, or ad hoc work. In my previous role, I would occasionally undertake household duties such as washing up and tidying the bedrooms while the children were occupied. I can continue this or, if requested, can clean in addition to childcare.

My Experience

I have spent the past two years working for a lovely family in Wokingham with 11-year-old twins who, as of September, will be starting secondary school and no longer require childcare. My typical day would begin at 7am, with my main task being to direct the children to get themselves ready in a timely fashion. As they were preparing for secondary school, facilitating independence was a key theme in my role. I would drive them to school for 8:15am and spend the rest of the day at university. Pick-up was normally around 4pm and my evenings would often consist of preparing snack, helping the children with their prep or driving them to various extra-curricular activities.

In the academic year 2016-2017, I worked in a St Francis CofE Primary School in Oxford as a TA for years 5-6. My main role was preparing the students for their SATs and I conducted interventions for small groups and one-on-ones in Maths and English. I am very familiar with the KS2 curriculum and confident in assisting children through their education. During my time at St Francis I also had the opportunity to undergo several different training programmes. I was First-Aid trained, with specific attention to paediatric first aid, completed the Oxfordshire Play Association training course and attended various training programmes to assist children who had specific needs for my role as key worker.

My Qualifications

No formal qualifications relating specifically to childcare

My Availability

As a post doctorate student, I have the luxury of often choosing when I work most of the time. I am incredibly flexible and find it helpful to incorporate the schedule of the children I care for into my daily routine. Below are my ideal working hours. I prefer to study during the normal working day, however if there are children who for example do not attend institutional schools at normal working hours, I would be happy to discuss alternative weekly arrangements that could suit us both. The timetable on this profile is only a suggestion. I also am able to provide full-time half term/school holidays childcare; working at a university generally keeps me at the same pace as the school term times, so I generally take my holidays at the same time as most children. In terms of hours, I would not be able to regularly exceed 20 hours a week (with the exception of the school holidays, which I am able to work 40 hours). During the weekends, I work in hospitality although I am happy to move things around on the odd occasion to provide weekend childcare. I am available to start in September 2019.

My Fees

  • Babysitting from £13.00 per hour
  • Nannying from £13.00 per hour (net)

My salary is negotiable dependant on if childcare is required for out-of-term time, the level of flexibility necessary and the different types of services needed. I am happy to base my pay on an average hourly rate per week, although I will require a consistent and reliable income as I am a self-funded student; i.e. I will need an income spread over the school holidays. Therefore, I unfortunately am not in a position to accept ad hoc hourly pay. To this end, I anticipate the following to:

Minimum monthly net £900:
Based on 15-hour weeks, term time only, nannying only and includes childcare for sick days and occasional over-night or weekend babysitting. Average state schools work 39 weeks a year, so the pay would amount to roughly £18 an hour.

Maximum monthly net £1,400:
Based on 20-hour weeks, including full-time childcare during the school holidays. Tutoring, light housework, overnights, sick days, babysitting all available. Average school holiday would be 9am-5pm days at 40-hour weeks. The pay would amount to roughly £13 an hour.
