Best of both childcare is run by 2 registered childminder’s Kelly Haywood & Becky Swindells. We became best of both in September 2019 when we joined forces and now provide care from a home from home setting as well as a community hall before & after school, meaning that children get the best of both settings. Children in our setting learn through both focused and independent play. We also go out into the community and explore our surroundings. We have regular outings to parks, play centres, playgroups and also explore different transport modes and cultural experiences.
The community centre we work from provides a large indoor and good size outdoor space for all the children to use. We drop off and pick up from Waterloo primary school & Canon burrows. Our opening hours are 7:30am - 4:30pm. Term time only.We are based in Ashton Under Lyne & Failsworth.
My name is Kelly Haywood and I have 4 children, my eldest is 29 and youngest is 20. I have been a childminder for 20 years. I am registered with ofsted and on my last inspection in December 25 & received a “GOOD.” I have a level 3 diploma in children & young people’s workforce and a degree in Early Childhood Studies.
My name is Becky Swindells and I have 3 children, my eldest is 15 and my twins are 12. I have been a childminder for 10 years. I am registered with ofsted and on my last inspection in sept 23 received a “GOOD.” Previous to being a childminder I worked in a private day nursery for 5 years. I have a level 3 diploma in children & young people’s workforce.
We both hold the relevant paediatric first aid qualifications and safeguarding and continue to develop our professional knowledge with regular training.

We have over 30 years experience between us working with children.

My little girl started going to Becky and Kelly just after her 1st birthday due to a tricky start at a nursery. From the minute she started, she settled instantly. It was a home-from-home environment and they would always do different activities including days out and a variety of playgroups which Lucy loved! Lucy stayed with Becky and Kelly until she started in Reception and was so sad to be leaving them, as was I that she was leaving them too. She would ask daily if she could go back and play. Lucy loves the fact that she still sees them in the playground now and always asks to go and talk to them. She has also mentioned a sleepover……! Becky and Kelly will always ask about Lucy’s progress in and out of school and are keen to continue the relationship with her.
The gift that Lucy received on her last day from her time with Best of Both Childcare was a photo book that included photos from her as a baby with them right up until her last day and a ‘graduation’ picture. This is something that can and will be kept for a lifetime. A lot of thought was put into her gift and Lucy looks at it most nights before bed.
I would definitely recommend Becky and Kelly to anybody looking for a local childminders.

I placed my son into a nursery setting when he first turned one. He was there for 8 months and didn’t settle once everyday was a battle of tears and being upset. Within 1/2 DAYS of him joining best of both he was settled right in! No tears at the door only when we pick him up and have to take him home! I feel so confident with him in there care as they treat him like there own I can have immediate communication with themselves and i know they will go above and beyond for my little boy! I highly recommend them both

Becky and Kelly have been providing me with childcare for over 3 years now. My son adores them both and flourished in their care. Initially Archer had a full time place and the mix of care in their homes attending playgroups was just what my son needed to keep him stimulated. I always felt reassured that while he was with them he was being cared for like he was one of their own.
Now Archer attends Waterloo Nursery and has a before school place which he still really looks forward to. With the support of Becky and Kelly his transition into his new setting has been really easy.
I could not recommend Best of Both enough!

My son has been going to Becky and Kelly since he was six months old and I’ve never felt more at ease. Both ladies are lovely and welcoming and fantastic with the children they care for. They take them on days out and work closely to ensure your little ones meet their milestones. I will be keeping my son with them when he starts primary school as they also cater for before and after school pick up. They treat my son like their own and he loves spending his days with them. Would definitely recommend ☺️

The best decision we made was choosing best of both childcare for Poppy we are so pleased how much Poppy has developed since being in their care. I know that when I am at work Poppy is in the best care with them and she absolutely attending, she comes home talking about Becky and Kelly all the time and what she has been upto.
