As Deputy Room Manager, I work primarily with children aged 0-3, while also covering the preschool room for children aged 3 to school age. My role involves assisting the Room Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the nursery, ensuring the smooth running of both rooms. I am responsible for delivering the EYFS framework, using it as the basis for planning and implementing age-appropriate activities that promote individual learning and development. I actively use the Blossom online system for daily diaries, EYFS observations, and planning, which helps ensure that each child's needs and interests are met through personalised learning experiences.
In addition to my educational responsibilities, I also oversee daily routines such as nap times, ensuring each child has the correct items and is settled appropriately. Meal times are another important aspect of my role, where I make sure children's dietary requirements are met and ensure that all children are eating in a safe and supportive environment. I work closely with parents to maintain consistent care, fostering strong relationships that enhance the child's overall development. Furthermore, I practise the Curiosity Approach, which focuses on creating an environment that encourages exploration, independent thinking, and creativity, allowing children to learn at their own pace in a thoughtful, enriched setting.

In my private care role, I provide personalised care to a family with two children, one of whom has ADHD and additional needs. I am responsible for organising and supervising a range of stimulating activities, including swimming, playgroups, and outdoor play at local parks, to promote both social and physical development. I ensure that the environment is safe, engaging, and tailored to the children’s individual needs. A key part of my role is preparing meals for the children, taking into account specific dietary requirements and preferences. I also provide overnight care and accompany the family on trips and holidays, ensuring continuity of care and maintaining a structured routine. My work with the children has developed my ability to manage challenging behaviours with patience and empathy, creating a supportive and positive environment. As an Early Years Practitioner, I worked closely with children aged 0-5 years, gaining hands-on experience across both age ranges. I am responsible for planning and delivering a range of age-appropriate activities that support the children’s physical, emotional, and cognitive development in line with the EYFS framework. During my time in the 0-2-year-old room, I took on a leadership role two days a week, overseeing daily routines, managing a team of assistants, and ensuring that all activities and care provided were of the highest standard. In addition to providing a nurturing and secure environment for the children, I regularly conducted detailed observations and assessments of each child’s progress, ensuring their individual needs were met and communicating these findings with parents. My role required strong organisational skills, as I coordinated the room’s daily routines, including meal times, nap times, and group activities, and also ensured that health and safety standards were maintained throughout. I worked closely with the management team to implement initiatives and ensure the highest level of care, including assisting with staff appraisals and providing feedback. I also supported the inclusion of children with additional needs, ensuring they received the necessary support and resources to thrive.

In this customer-facing role, I was responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the café operated smoothly. I managed the till, handled cash, and maintained accurate financial records. I was also involved in the preparation of food and beverages, ensuring that all items were prepared to the highest standard, in line with food safety regulations. A significant portion of my role involved providing excellent customer service, taking orders, and ensuring that customers’ needs were met in a timely and efficient manner. I developed a strong ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers, addressing any concerns or special requests, including catering for dietary needs such as food allergies. I also assisted in maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of the café, ensuring that it remained inviting and hygienic for both staff and customers. This role helped me develop excellent multitasking and time-management skills, as I often worked in a fast-paced environment, balancing customer service with food preparation.

Poppies Nursery | July 2018
As part of my early career development, I completed a two-week work placement at Poppies Nursery, where I gained initial experience in the early years sector. During my time there, I assisted the staff in delivering activities, supporting children aged 0-5, and helping with various administrative tasks. This experience allowed me to gain a better understanding of how a nursery operates on a day-to-day basis, as well as the various roles within a childcare setting. I assisted in setting up learning areas, engaging with the children in play, and supporting their individual needs. It was during this placement that I developed a strong passion for working with children and began to realise my potential in this field.
