About Me

My experience of working at a children’s day care has enriched me with the ability to work successfully with a team and to communicate well with various groups of people including children, co-workers and parents. I have learned to be understanding, patient, and have learned to focus on others’ needs with great precision. For example, some of the children I looked after have specific schedules their parents want them to follow as well as strict dietary needs. I have meticulously and continually met these standards. I grew up with a very large family, I’m a middle child of 7 children. I also grew up with a lot of cousins, different age groups, at the age of 16 I was already taught how to take care of babies and children as I had to babysit most of the time, I enjoyed babysitting as a hobby. I continued to peruse my likes and wanted to do it professionally, at college I studied childcare, I wanted to be more practical so I was on a job search to work at a daycare. I’ve worked at the daycare for almost two years, I loved waking up and starting my day there, it was my first proper job. I say “proper first job” because I’ve been doing volunteering before that, I’ve worked in a community centre with children aged up to 10 and I’ve volunteered at a nursery at the age of 16. As of now, I’d like to call what I’m doing “freelancing” I babysit families here and there, I love to build connections with the children and it’s easier when it’s 1-1 in their homes. My plan for the future is to pursue my career with children.

My Experience

I’ve worked for two years at the daycare, Monday to Friday for 9 hours each day. So 45 hours per week, I’ve covered different rooms such as preschool, toddler room and baby room. I mostly worked in the baby room and stayed there for the rest of my time being there. My main responsibilities were to make sure they were well looked after such as keeping them clean, feeding them etc, building bonds and connections with them so that they are comfortable, I also made sure targets were met and helped them build their early years stages. (Physical, social, emotional development, communication and language).

UPDATE: Just left working full time with a family, started when the child was 1years old and is now 3 years old, alongside an additional child to their family who turned 8 months when I left. This gave me more experience and I’ve gained confidence with working with two children and one of them being a baby. Any questions, feel free to message and ask!
