About Me

I am a calm and caring person, keen to ensure every child becomes the very best they can be. I hold QTS, and I am qualified and experienced in teaching lower primary and foundation stage. I specialise in delivering personalised teaching, meeting the needs of children who may find learning difficult, or who may need a boost on top of learning at school.

I love the outdoors both for walking and swimming. I have two sons, now in their early twenties and late teens who are both away at University, and an energetic springer spaniel! I have recently moved into the area, and I am currently renovating an old cottage. I speak three languages, although perhaps getting a little rusty on the two that aren’t English.

My Experience

I have 20+ years teaching experience from lower primary, foundation stage, and as a private tutor for children from the age of 2 years old. I specialise in engaging children in their own learning by understanding where they are at, and identifying what barriers may interfere with their progress. I tend to plan learning around practical activities, often using visual cues, in order to break down concepts that may be difficult to grasp when abstract.

I have vast experience teaching what may be difficult to engage young learners, sometimes with a diagnosis of ADHD, or with verbal or non-verbal autism. I specialise in creating a learning format where they can access teaching delivered by a tutor who understands them.

I also offer targeted tuition for any ability level young emerging reader, writer, or aspiring young mathematician, aimed particularly at the child who may show an early interest in academic learning before their peers.

I have extensive experience working with other professionals, i.e. educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and I can easily absorb their advice into my teaching just from reading any reports.

In addition, I worked as a school SENCO for over 15 years and I have significant experience gathering observational assessments and documenting these, including for Statutory Assessments.

I tend to stay working with families over long time periods of time, and although there is no obligation to do so, it has been the wishes of the parents. I find that established relationships, with tutoring taking place in the child's home environment, lead to the best outcomes.

If you’re the parent called to one side at the end of the school day to be told of the ‘problems’, but offered no solutions, then I know so very well where you’re coming from. Sometimes all that is needed is a different perspective away from a hectic classroom environment with someone who understands your child, and who can find an approach that works.

I have an up to date DBS check, and I am registered with the Government's online update service.
