Hello! My name is Derek and I am an Ofsted Registered Childminder. I live in Moston with my wife, Marah, a secondary school maths teacher.
I have a lot of experience working with and looking after children. Being the eldest child in my family (a 17-year age gap between myself and the youngest), I have experience looking after my younger brothers who are now 15, 13, and 11 years old. I am a passionate mathematician (currently doing a degree in mathematics) and have been tutoring KS1-A-level maths for many years. After turning 18 and completing my A-levels, I played football professionally. During my football career, I spent some time coaching youth teams and it was through this I knew that I wanted to work with children in the future. Fortunately, my mother was also an experienced childminder for 21 years and it was through her that I got into this fantastic job! I started as her childcare assistant in 2019. After the positive relationships I made with the children and the encouragement from their parents, I decided to start my own childcare business. I have been an Ofsted Registered Childminder since July 2022.
Parents have often described me as a positive male role model for their kids. I ensure to provide a loving, caring, safe & engaging environment for all children in my care. My home has a dedicated soft-play playroom filled with many activities that children can use such as painting, dough & clay, building blocks, and many other things. I have a flexible timetable that involves both adult-led activities (such as painting, drawing, music, textiles, baking/cooking) and child-led activities (such as building blocks, dough & clay, free play with materials like cardboard and wooden blocks to encourage self-learning and use of their imagination). There is also a designated reading area for children. I also offer overnight stays and have a dedicated sleep/nap/quiet room. Pick-ups are currently at Holy Trinity Primary School (Moston Lane) 3 pm & 3:15 pm Saviour Primary (Collyhurst). Pick ups from a different schools are possible depending on timings.
3:15pm schools possible from September 2025
Overnight stays on Fridays and Saturdays are currently occupied.

I cannot thank you Derek enough, my son is autistic and non verbal his school mostly give us feedback that they cannot manage his tantrums but I don't know how Derek buil a good bond with him that my son stays calm with him and Derek never complained about any tantrums they get along so well.

Derek has been looking after my daughter since last year, has been a very satisfactory journey I see every day how happy my daughter comes home and she's not a easy child, with Derek I know my daughter is in safe hands. I have been using Derek for a few months now for Childminding, in which he has been an amazing support he is friendly attentive to my children's needs and requirements and always makes them feel at home. my children are very comfortable with Derek, Thank you Derek for making this a smooth transition for both myself and the children :)

Derek is very professional and looks after my son and helps him with his homework. I am so happy I have found him, I feel very reassured and relaxed when my son is with Derek. I could count on Derek if there is any changes to my plans and he has never let me down. Since my son has been with Derek I have notice he feels more confident.
I would highly recommend Derek if you are looking for a childminder.

My son love Derek.He cared incredibly for my son.Very careful and kind. When I had questions about my son he answered me immediately. He always arrived early and never let us down. I would definitely recommend.
