About Me
I am warm and personable, firm but fair and am especially encouraging of creative and literacy activities alongside learning based play. I used to run the children’s section of a bookshop so am well versed in children’s literature and encourage reading and storytelling regularly. I am a qualified chef so try to inspire the children in my care to always try new things and nurture their curiosity in a wide and varied, healthy eating plan- inviting them to participate in the preparation and cooking of their meals. I have experience of working in Special Education Needs, including children with Down’s Syndrome, Autism (both non verbal and verbal) and emotional and behavioural learning difficulties. I have a degree in Acting & Performance and worked as a professional singer for three years, so enjoy bringing the energy and tools within my artistic background into imaginative play. As an EYP I follow the national curriculum practice of respecting the child’s voice and allowing them to engage with their interests in a free flow environment. My unique approach to this is to filter in the required basic learning skills (literacy, numeracy, STEM, health & emotional & physical wellbeing) to their natural play: For this, I rely on indoor resources, imagination, visual aids, music & song, role play and outdoor play.
My Experience
I am a mature and qualified Early Years Practitioner employed part time at The Edinburgh Academy Nursery. I have experience working with and caring for babies and children from 8 months up to 6 years old. I have previously worked as a Classroom Assistant, Nanny, Drama Teacher, Housemistress, Early Years Assistant and 1:1 Support at primary schools in both the state and private sectors.
My Qualifications
I am educated to degree level and am a qualified Early Years Practitioner (SVQ3 Level 7) with first aid training.
SSSC registered, PVG certified.
I am currently studying in my spare time for an NCFE in Introduction to Neuroscience in Early Years.
My Availability
I will be available Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays from early January ‘25.
On Mondays I work at The Edinburgh Academy.
Happy to discuss occasional/regular babysitting hours.
