My Summary
About Me
My setting is warm with love, and I will always strive for what is best for the children providing a home from home setting with a huge emphasis on being outdoors in nature as I truly believe nature provides the best classroom. I follow my own pedagogy which I have created through various ideologies that really struck a chord with me and I felt would create the best nurturing and learning environment for the children. The ideologies that really inspire me are The Curiosity Approach, Hygee, Froebel, Montessori, Forest School and Reggio (at the end of the pack there is more information on these).
I will have a playroom which has a strong emphasis on loose parts play and authentic resources such as upcycled hampers giving a new lease of life to discarded objects such as cameras, binoculars, typewriters, old phones, and traditional weighing scales. I will bring the nature in with things we gather on nature walks and plants. I am creating a warm, inviting space with calming music, essential oil diffuser, cushions and blankets. I will be using lamps and fairy lights for a relaxing environment to make sure it’s not over stimulating for your little one. I will rotate toys and resources, so the children never get bored. I have an allotment where the children will be fully involved from choosing things to plant, planting them, looking after them and eating them in our homegrown, home cooked food. I also have chickens at the allotment which the children can help look after. I have a two-storey wooden playhouse at the allotment which I have turned into a sensory house it has a blackboard wall, sequin walls, fake grass wall, reading snug, sensory ceiling hangers, a big velcro sea scene and some toys. There is also a climbing frame, a pack away mud kitchen and big loose parts for the children to use their imaginations and construct some awesome structures.
My Experience
Hi, I’m Rachel and I am the proud parent of my own mucky footed child Eljay who is 5 years old. I decided to set up as a childminder as I am passionate about young children’s learning and development journey prior to them starting school. I previously worked as a Deputy Manager at a home for young people who had experienced trauma, and since having my own child, have become passionate about supporting early years development so Mucky Feet Childminding was born!
