My Summary
Starseekers Extension Groups For Bright Y5, Y6 & Y7 Pupils Preparing For Entrance Assessments
About Me
Hello, my name is Helen Jameson and I am a highly qualified and experienced tutor with a genuine love of teaching. I have a master’s degree from Cambridge University and my academic interests include educational research that focuses on effective teaching methods that build confidence and academic progression.
I am passionate about making learning engaging, relevant and as intrinsically rewarding as possible. My aim is to inspire learners to become more confident in their own abilities and reach their potential by focusing on teaching and learning which is effective, meaningful, creative and fun. Each lesson is prepared individually, based on the needs and interests of my students.
I am fully booked for individual lessons at the moment but there are a few spaces available in my Starseekers Extension Groups. These small group are for children, with bright, enquiring minds, who are preparing to sit 11+ or 13+ entrance assessments to highly selective schools in Cambridgeshire such as The Perse, Stephen Perse, The Leys and King’s Ely. The Y5 groups meet in Waterbeach, near Cambridge and the Y6/7 group is online via Zoom.
Starseekers groups meet weekly throughout the year in half-termly blocks of 5-weeks. Each block is designed to provide a comprehensive and engaging learning experience for pupils who are eager to learn, explore and excel, thus ensuring your child is not only prepared for academic assessments but also equipped with valuable skills for lifelong success. I believe investing in a child’s education is a priceless investment in their future.
In my spare time, I enjoy writing and creating textile and mixed media art. I work with reclaimed fabrics and other recyclable materials and often exhibit my work during Cambridge Open Studios and the annual ‘Summer at the Beach’ Arts Festival.
My Experience
I have more than thirty years of teaching experience in both state-maintained and independent schools in the Cambridge area and beyond. Since establishing my private tuition service in 2013, I have seen the enormous benefits children get from 1:1 and small group tutoring that meets their individual needs and interests.
I specialise in teaching children aged 5-13 with many different requirements and goals, including those being home-educated and pupils preparing for entrance assessments for independent schools including The Perse, Stephen Perse, The Leys, Uppingham and King’s Ely.
I also have a great deal of experience teaching children who have neurological differences such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, ADHD and ASD.
My Qualifications
B.H (Hons) degree in Chemistry, Psychology & Education - London University -1980
PGCE (Post-Graduate Certificate in Education) - London University - 1981
Post-Graduate Advanced Diploma in Early Years Education - Homerton College, Cambridge - 2002
MPhil (Master’s Degree) in Education - Cambridge University - 2009

Helen has been tutoring our son for a few months now and has had an overwhelmingly positive influence on our son. From the outset Helen established a great connection with him, and he has always been happy to go. His school have noticed a shift in his capacity to concentrate, which has supported his progress in reading, which had been great to see. As a parent I have found Helen enormously reassuring. She understands children, has a wealth of experience and equipment that she deploy skillfully and gently. For a child who doesn't find school a natural fit, being tutored by Helen had given him a space to feel positive within a learning environment, and gain confidence. I am happy to unreservedly recommend Helen.
