Hi there! My name's Merlie and I'm a 29-year-old study skills tutor at a college in Bristol. I support students with additional needs to engage with their learning; offering strategies, support and guidance. I have always really enjoyed working with children and young people for the fun, playfulness and humour they offer. I am an Education and Creative Arts Therapy graduate currently doing a postgraduate course to be a specialist tutor for students with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and autism. I have about 5 years of experience working with adults and young people with these conditions and very much enjoy it. I live with my long-term partner in Montpelier and in my free time, I enjoy reading, creating music, dancing and crafts. I am enthusiastic, kind, caring and responsible, and I care very much about the safety and protection of children. I am a non-smoker and very happy to offer references where needed.
My Experience
I have a total of 15 months experience of part-time and occasional nannying for three families with children aged 18 months to 11 years. I have done babysitting for several families.
I have three and a half years experience of being a support worker for adults with disabilities and three years experience in education. These, along with my arts therapy and ongoing education studies have given me transferrable skills for working with children. I am a good listener and enjoy taking care of others. I always try to bring out the best in people by being positive, proactive and attentive to their needs.
