My Summary
About Me
Hello, my name is Katie! I’m 23 years old and I have graduated from the University of Reading with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Language Science.
I’m a very fun, happy and bubbly person who adores working with children. I’m an aspiring primary school teacher and would love the opportunity to work 1-1 with children both typically developed and require SEN assistance.
I have a range of hobbies and interests which I am happy to teach, share and inspire with children to create a fun and exciting atmosphere! Some of my hobbies and interests are listed below!
- gardening & nature
- embroidery & needlework
- arts and crafts
- cooking & baking
- fitness, hiking & exercise
- badminton
- reading & writing
Please reach out if you would like to ask any more questions about me or have a chat! I look forward to hearing from you!
My Experience
While studying my CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care, I developed my understanding by applying myself within the education field rather than just within theory. I attained this by doing two placements - the first being a mainstream school and the second a SEN school. I decided to volunteer in both schools to enhance my understanding in the way the national curriculum is taught and how it differs and adapts to childrens needs.
I volunteered at Chiltern Edge Secondary School as a teaching assistant and as class assistant at Bishopswood School which was inside Emmer Green Primary School. This was a specific to SENCO teaching children with disabilities and learning difficulties. Due to the diversity of the two experiences, it offered me two different perspectives of the child educational system.
I am currently working as a 1:1 SEN LSA within a primary school in Reading. The role varies and I am fortunate enough to provide support to class teachers and students with additional needs within the mainstream school and work within the SEND department with children who are unable to join in mainstream classes with their peers. I have experience working with children who have autism, pda, global delay, adhd and pica. I am also knowledgable of PECS.
