About Me
Hi, I’m Jen, an ex primary school teacher (having taught in both reception and year 1). I took a break from teaching and decided to come back to childminding, as after bringing up my own children and helping them to be 'school ready', I realised that that is what I would prefer to do. I offer a home from home family environment, near a small, local park and love taking children on walks in the surrounding countryside. I have a warm approach which nurtures children to be the best that they can be, and reach their potential. I have a wealth of experience of teaching numbers and phonics and everything in between. I love getting children outdoors, whatever the weather. I find a daily walk / outdoor activity to be extremely beneficial and this is the way I plan to start my day with the children.
I also have a particular interest in phonics and speech. At school, my favourite thing to teach used to be phonics and now, I love to watch my 15 month old learn the earliest stages of phonetic knowledge, using his listening skills in the environment outside, animal sounds and using instruments.
My Experience
I am an ex Early Years Qualified teacher (head of year 1). I have 3 children, aged 7, 5 and 15 months and love being surrounded by children and having an impact on their development, helping them grow, learn and become confident and independent learners.
Our day will start will a calendar meeting, where we make our plan for the day, followed by an outdoor activity, lunch and naps and then learning through play at home in the afternoon. One of my favourite things to do is create resources, based on children's continued development for the children to play with and learn from.
My Qualifications
BA in French and Spanish
PGCE in Primary Education
Childminding course
Safeguarding
First aid
Food hygiene
My Availability
I currently have 2 spaces. I open 7.30-5.30 Monday - Friday. I charge a flat day rate of £80 and accept government funding (minimum of 2 days commitment per week, to allow your child to settle well). I do not currently provide before / after school for school attending children as prefer to give the preschool age children my undivided attention and plan my day around them without interruptions of school runs.
