About Me
Hello, My husband and I are looking for someone to help us with care of our 11 year old son Teddy. Teddy was born with two rare genetic conditions and has complex special needs. He is totally unique. Teddy attends a Special Needs school in Farnborough. He is cheeky, inquisitive, loves music, swimming, playing with his toys and all things sensory based. He loves to be outdoors exploring, but equally loves to be at home with family and friends. He has a “live in the moment attitude”, which we love!
Teddy does require a high level of support with all daily tasks, he has a physical disability and is a part time wheelchair user. He is non verbal and has severe learning difficulties.
My Requirements
We have been fortunate enough to have a teaching assistant from school support us with Teddy for the past 4 years, but she is about to become a qualified teacher, so is having to leave us in September 2024. We are looking for someone to start helping us from this summer.
We receive direct payments through the local authority, and would be using this to fund an assistant to help Teddy. I work part time and can be flexible with the help that somebody can provide us. For instance, someone who could help a couple of mornings with getting dressed, breakfast and school run, or some help with collection from school and bringing him home for a snack/dinner. Alternatively, or as well as, adhoc support, or fixed hours support on a Saturday or Sunday. We also have funding for some overnight support for someone to stay at our home and help during the night if that would interest anyone.
Essentially we can be really flexible with some hours/days but would equally like some fixed regular hours/days aswell.
During school holidays, an adhoc or fixed hours would also be really welcomed.
The help is needed to allow me to continue to work and to provide us with some respite.
We would absolutely expect anyone interested to come and meet us and teddy in the first instance, before committing to anything, as we totally understand that his needs are somewhat different to his peers. We would also absolutely provide plenty of paid shadowing and training around Teddy's care.
All I can say is, he is a gorgeous boy who brings fun, cheekiness and uniqueness to all those who know him.
