About Me
Hi! My name is Sydney and I moved to Wales in September from the USA. I am currently studying an MA in Social Work (specialising in children & families) at Cardiff University. I have no children of my own but my life centers around children, and I would love the opportunity to get to know you & your family! I’m kind, easygoing, and love to come up with cool new things to do that are age-appropriate and educational. I always incorporate teaching new ideas and concepts into childcare and relish time spent at a museum or in nature, or even just watching Bluey and playing with Lego or on the iPad.
My Experience
I completed most of an Education degree (undergraduate) and have 8 years direct teaching experience from infants to adults -- as a lead teacher, aide, or substitute -- as well as proctoring and tutor, and over 15 years of babysitting. I have completed over 200 hours of training in child development. I worked for Child Protective Services in Texas as a caseworker for foster children, including those who had behavioural problems or mental and/or physical health conditions, and their parents. I have a brother 9 years younger than me who is diagnosed autistic so I have experience caring for children with additional needs, as well. I also have three nieces and five nephews whom I love very much!
My Qualifications
BS/MA History (specialised in Secondary Education as undergraduate), MA Social Work (2024-2026). I have an Enhanced DBS check, completed October 2024. I am First Aid certified.
My Availability
Free for emergencies or planned dates. I currently work 9-5 M-F doing a placement for my Social Work course until July, but am free outside of this!
