About Me

We are a family with 3 children and are looking for a carer for our cheeky and fun-loving son Daniel who is 5. Daniel likes being outside, music, singing and being read stories. He also enjoys rough and tumble play and close interaction and cuddles with his special people. Daniel has quadriplegic spastic cerebral palsy, epilepsy and Global Developmental Delay. He can not sit unaided and needs help with all transfers and to access activities and play. Daniel is also severely sight impaired, PEG fed and non-verbal but makes noises and gives lots of smiles.

My Requirements

Special Needs Experience

Tasks:
1. Administer medication – training and support will be provided
2. PEG feeds at regular intervals (currently every 2-3 hours) – training and support will be provided
3. Personal care – pad changes and washing
4. Observe and support through seizures – full training and support provided (please note that Daniel has not had a seizure since August 2023)
5. Help to support and stimulate Daniel’s development through play activities
6. Perform stretches and exercises from Daniel’s physiotherapy programme (no professional training needed and we will show and support you with these)
7. Help Daniel to access the community and leisure activities
8. Assist on family days out
9. Complete shift notes, MAR charts and seizure charts
10. Undertake mandatory clinical annual training – this will be once and then refreshed yearly – all training will be paid for

Person Specification:
• Someone that wants to make a positive difference to Daniel’s wellbeing
• Can use their own initiative for activities and play through the day
• Reliable
• Energetic
• Adaptable
• Experience of working with children with SEND
• PEG feeding experience preferable but training can be provided
• Valid DBS or willing to obtain – cost will be covered


Hours of work:
Role is for 12 hours a week, shared by a minimum of two carers. During term time, shifts currently include a Saturday (10-2) and two after school shifts (days flexible). In the school holidays, shifts are flexible and will be three daytime sessions or two longer sessions. You will be required to cover working hours for the other carer’s holidays and sick leave as necessary.

Rate of pay:
£15.62 per hour (gross) with an inclusion of 5.6 weeks annual leave pay and 3% contribution to NEST pension. Statutory sick pay.
