About Me
I am a retired teacher and I have three grown up daughters and a brand new granddaughter. I would describe myself as child-centred with a passion for sharing stories and helping others to understand the mysteries of the English language. I love history, I love museums and theatres and I see stories as alternative ways of learning. I currently volunteer to hear readers at a local school on Thursday afternoons.
As a babysitter, I enjoy encouraging play, I love to share books and I am comfortable with bed time routines. I often use Thrive techniques to encourage children to be part of decisions especially those who are resistant to bed time!
My Experience
I am a recently retired qualified teacher (Subject: English/Literacy) with experience of teaching everything from phonics to A level and some English as an additional language. I have an interest in working to remove barriers to learning and have experience of teaching neuro divergent pupils as well as teaching adults. I brought up my own 3 daughters and before teaching I was a Youth Worker and when my own were young, a Brown Owl! I have an Enhanced DBS currently and a driving license.
Only recently moved into Somerset and out of teaching.
My Qualifications
My qualifications are mostly education orientated. I have a BA (Hons), MA, National Professional Qualification in Senior Leadership (NPQSL), CELTA (teaching speakers of other languages) although also I have been trained in Trauma Informed practices and Thrive. I have basic first aid from when I was a leader in the Girl Guide Association and I am currently studying again around barriers to neuro diverse children enjoying reading and how to enable them.
My Availability
In general I am available most evenings although there will be occasions (I anticipate this being weekends) when I am not.

My Fees
- Babysitting from £10.00 per hour
- Tutoring from £35.00 per hour
My fees currently reflect the 'extra' I bring. Babysitting is a new role for me and I am trialling how it might work. I reserve the right to change this depending on how this trial progresses. My tutoring rates reflect my preparation time. If you wish me to set/mark homework then this will either take place during tutoring or will be charged at my hourly rate.
