About Me
Hi! I’m a fourth year international undergraduate student at the University of Edinburgh, and am looking to earn some money working part time as a babysitter. I’m originally from Maldives, but I grew up in Singapore, and am now loving exploring and studying at Edinburgh! I really enjoy working with children and spending time with them generally. I would say I’m very friendly and outgoing, and love to spend my free time reading, exploring cafés, museums, bookstores, doing a bit of arts and crafts, baking here and there and watching all kinds of films! I’m good at handling all kinds of emotions, from little children to my older friends and family members, and it is a character trait that I believe can come in very handy working as a babysitting.
My Experience
I have been volunteering with Rainbow Girlguides (4-6 year olds) weekly for over a year now. It has been an incredible experience, being able to foster the development of young children, and learning from them at the same time. I would say this experience has also allowed me to be more aware of the kinds of things that early primary year students are currently working on and learning at schools in Scotland. In terms of in a school environment, I worked at a Pre-K/kindergarten as a summer job in 2018 for a month in Maldives. But more currently, being the oldest grandchild of a big family with over 15 younger cousins from ages 2 all the way up to 18, I have been spending time looking after children throughout my life, and its definitely a very important part of who I am. I often look after my cousins during the summer and winter breaks when I go back home, and am used to finding activities to keep them busy, preparing and providing snacks, helping with any school work, going on little walks, and just playing with them and making sure they are having a good time, or dealing with any tantrum or sibling or friend conflicts that may occur! I also have been a President of a society called Girl* Up Edinburgh for the past 2 years, and am going into my final year as President, and in that role I have had to do a lot in terms of creativity by preparing discussions and activities every week, but more importantly, it involves communicating and collaborating with different people from different backgrounds, so I am very experienced with getting to know and making sure new faces feel safe and included.
My Qualifications
I currently have 7 IGCSE qualifications, where I received 5A*s and 2A*s. I also have an International Baccalaureate Diploma, where I received 41/45 points. I am currently pursuing a MA International Relations and International Law Degree. I have a PVG Check that was issued in August 2023 in order to volunteer with Girlguiding, as I work with 4-6 year old girls.
My Availability
I am mostly free on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturday late afternoon to evening, and Sunday morning till late afternoon! I would preferably like to work within the Marchmont/Tollcross/Newington/Central Edinburgh area.
