Hello.
Welcome to yellow wellies! A little cabin with a great outdoor area in WF16. Yellow wellies is run by me, a level 3 childcare qualified practitioner. I am also a level 3 qualified forest school practitioner. I have 8/9 years experience working within early years as a childcare practitioner and a year as a forest school leader providing outdoor education. I am currently in the period of registration and building yellow wellies! With an Ofsted visit approaching, I am hopeful to be taking children on around April this year (2025). I am excited to show you what I have been doing. I will be offering childminding which means I will have limited places for childcare. We have been working hard the last few months to create a beautiful and unique place for the children. I have made a page where you can view photos and further information please do ask.

Inside the cabin you we have gone for the curiosity approach. The children will have access to natural resources and materials. We have tried to maintain a theme of wooden toys and real objects to spark the children’s interest. Outside we have a huge wood chipped area with a big mud kitchen, water trays, den building materials and more. This is where the children will be able to explore, create and develop with freedom and choice. It is starting to look great!

As part of the forest school/ curiosity approach curriculum we will be having regular meals outside some days. We have created a space for this! Breakfast outside sometimes? You bet! I am still to get insurance to say “we can have fires” but I sure do hope we can cook some of our own meals!

As well as all of this we are also surrounded by fields. One which takes a few minutes to get to. We will be spending lots of time outdoors! We have had council visits in preparation for an Ofsted visit. We will be available for childcare from April!

I have selected before and after school but this is more of a time frame I can provide childcare during the day. I just don’t intend on doing before school and after school pick ups. My hours are not set as I haven’t fully explored what other people are looking for but I will update it when I can. Our opening hours will be something like 8-5 to give you an idea of the length of the day. Give or take half a hour. We are yet to decide what will work for us and for others. I have been busy creating the space! I do intend on opening all year around. Not term time and with the usual closing time around Christmas/ some holidays. Again yet to be discussed. Our setting is more like a small nursery rather than the typical childminding from home. However we are based on home land we just have a separate space for our cabin/ woodland area. I am only offering a childminding setting. The ratios will be low with around 4 children in a day.

I do intend on taking children outside of the setting from time to time to visit other forest schools and take trips. Please consider this before taking your place.

I will post more as I go alone and update where I can with further information. We are currently on with fitting the kitchen area but are hopeful to be complete with the work soon! Meaning we can start to offer viewings. We are almost there and almost ready for our little yellow wellies team to join us!
