My Summary
About Me
Hi, I'm Viv! I’m a 25-year-old qualified teacher with over a decade of experience working with children and young people. I grew up in the borough of Brent and I am currently seeking tutoring and childcare roles to continue honing my skills in educating and supporting young learners as I transition into a career as a Learning and Engagement Coordinator in museums and cultural institutions.
Working with children and young people has always been a passion of mine, and I am dedicated to helping them grow both as learners and as individuals. My approach to tutoring and childcare is rooted in understanding, care, and building strong relationships. I believe that fostering a supportive and trusting environment is essential to ensuring students feel comfortable and valued, which allows me to tailor my approach to their unique needs. My goal is not only to help students succeed academically but also to support their social and emotional development. This method has consistently led to increased confidence, improved grades, and a genuine love for learning in the children I’ve worked with.
Outside of my professional roles, I’m passionate about travel and art history, dedicating my trips to exploring historical sites and the history of art. I am also deeply invested in language learning and am currently perfecting my Slovak while advancing my Spanish and learning French and Portuguese.
My Experience
With over a decade of experience in education and community engagement, I bring a rich and versatile skill set to tutoring and childcare. My professional journey includes roles such as a History Teacher (Trainee) and a Learning and Engagement Volunteer, showcasing my expertise in delivering innovative, curriculum-aligned lessons and workshops tailored to diverse audiences. My history PGCE from the Institute of Education (UCL) has further refined my pedagogical skills, particularly in integrating inclusive, decolonised content into lessons to reflect varied historical perspectives. I have worked extensively with children and young people, designing resources and implementing creative approaches to foster critical thinking and cross-cultural awareness.
Beyond classroom teaching, my work at the Museum of Brands has deepened my commitment to community learning. Here, I have designed educational programs for ages 3–21+, managed logistics, and contributed to research and marketing efforts. My passion for accessibility has driven my creation of walking tours and school packs that highlight underrepresented aspects of London's history, encouraging students and local communities to connect with their heritage. In addition, my experience as a SEND Teaching Assistant has honed my ability to personalise learning plans, cultivate student confidence, and foster inclusive environments.
As a Childcare Assistant, I played a pivotal role in supporting a structured, high-quality learning environment for children aged 0–3. My responsibilities included designing and implementing an engaging curriculum based on the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework, ensuring developmental goals were met in a nurturing and inclusive manner. Beyond direct childcare, I effectively supported administrative tasks, such as budget allocation and communication with parents, ensuring smooth daily operations. Working through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, I demonstrated adaptability and problem-solving by navigating rapidly changing government guidelines, arranging testing protocols, and maintaining clear and empathetic communication with families. My work encouraged strong partnerships with colleagues and parents, supporting a collaborative and caring community that continued even after my tenure. This role centred on implementing the Montessori method to encourage independent learning and holistic development.
My academic background, which includes a BA in History of Art and History, has equipped me with strong research and analytical skills, as evidenced by my dissertation on queer Black Britons in late 20th-century London. This research underscores my commitment to amplifying marginalised narratives and creating meaningful educational content. Coupled with my technical proficiency in tools like Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and educational management systems, I am adept at blending operational efficiency with creative educational strategies.
I currently work as a cover teacher, specialising in teaching Reception and Year One students with a focus on reading, maths, phonics, and Forest School activities. Additionally, I cover a range of subjects in secondary schools, demonstrating my versatility and comprehensive understanding of the curriculum. This role keeps me up to date with the latest changes in the education system and allows me to adapt to diverse teaching environments. My experience spans a variety of settings, including independent, co-educational, single-gender, SEND specialist and state schools.
I am passionate about lifelong learning and empowering others to discover the richness of history, art, culture and learning more generally. Whether delivering hands-on workshops, educating teenagers or engaging with families and communities, I aim to inspire curiosity and a love for learning in all those I work with.
