My Summary
Sarah's Little Learners Setting
About Me
Hi everyone! I have been a primary teacher for the past ten years and I also have two children of my own (ages 1 & 3) so I bring a wealth of expertise to the table. I have wanted to start my own childminding business for a number of years now and I have finally decided to leave the classroom and take this exciting leap! I am very excited and I cannot wait to develop close and caring relationships with the children in my care. I have lots of resources and activities up my sleeve so that children can learn through play and feel happy and secure in my home.
A typical day with me will involve a local outing in the morning (e.g. playgroup, library, park, nature walks, farm), lunch/nap time; and then the afternoon will be spent playing and engaging in a range of activities back at my home. I live in Chapeltown on a quiet estate just 6 minutes walk from Chapeltown Park. I am a friendly, enthusiastic individual who loves to plan activities based on a child's interests. If you were a fly on the wall, some of the activities you could expect to see your child and I engaging in are: playing musical instruments and singing; playing jigsaws and puzzles, using play doh, using a range of building blocks and engaging in make believe games. I love to play games as much as possible and I know just how much this makes learning more memorable!
My home is a spacious detached house and I have a huge range of different toys and activities for ages 0-5. I can send over lots of pictures of my home on request. I have a downstairs toilet with a toilet potty so let me know when your child is starting the potty training journey and I'll be here to help. I have a large secure garden with a toddler friendly climbing frame/slide/swing and a variety of outdoor toys such as a car, ride along toys, scooters and bikes. I love being outside and exploring so wellies are a must!
You can also expect us to be reading lots of books throughout the day. Being from a teacher background, I know just how much reading improves school readiness and knowledge about the world. When age appropriate, I will also begin to introduce set 1 phonics sounds. I will keep you updated on what sound we are learning so you can practice at home too!
Bring a mother myself, I know how hard it can be leaving your children with someone you don't know very well and I want you to feel as comfortable as possible. I believe that my job is to make the settling in journey as smoothe as possible for the parents as well as the child. As I've joined with an agency (fee paid monthly by me not you), one of the benefits is that there is an app where I can update you throughout the day with pictures, what they have eaten and slept etc. All the reassurance any parent could want!
Please note, I am currently in the process of finalising my last couple of childminder checks and will be fully registered in January/February. I am currently still teaching and I am leaving at Easter. I will therefore be available from April 15th 2025.
My Experience
I have been teaching in several different Primary Schools for the past ten years. This has included teaching in Australia and New Zealand. I have strong subject knowledge of the EYFS and National Curriculum; as well as extensive experience in teaching children with a variety of SEND/EAL needs. I believe that my teaching experience has given me a breadth of skills that I now wish to take with me on my new childminding journey!
I of course have my own two children too so I have newborn experience, weaning, potty training etc.
My Qualifications
University qualifications:
- Qualified teacher status: Postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE)
- Psychology Bsc degree with a specialism in child development: First Class Honours degree.
Additional qualifications:
- Safeguarding training
- Trauma informed training
- Behaviour management
- Learning and development in the EYFS
- Enabling environments
- Pediatric first aid training (I have a new one booked for 1st February as mine has nearly ran out).
- Childminding course (currently completing to further improve my subject knowledge).
My Availability
My hours are typically 8-5.30 but a 7.30 start or a 6pm can be arranged. Children will need to attend for a minimum of 7.5 hours a day. I will be running term time only with the exception of the summer holidays. Sessions can be booked on an ad hoc basis in the summer holidays to keep that routine going with the children as I know it can feel like a very long time. You can 'bank' some of your funded hours to help cover the cost of this if you like. I may also be available for other school holidays too - please just ask. I just need to consider my ratio that's all as I will have my own two children at this time too.

My Fees
- Childminding from £7.00 per hour
I am pleased to offer the government funded hours. Having paid the full nursery fees for both of my children, I know what a game changer this is for many parents!
Please note there will be some sustainability fees applied to these hours. This will cover for things like healthy meals and snacks, entry fees for all of our exciting outings, wipes, calpol, treats etc. You will of course get 20% off of these fees with your childcare account too. Please get in touch to discuss further or if you have any questions - I would love to help!
