My Summary
About Me
It is my priority to create a homely and welcoming atmosphere for all children. I live in a spacious four-bedroom bungalow with considerable garden space which has a play park with swings, slides and in the ground trampoline for them to play safely on. The living-room has a large window seat which will provide the children with a stunning view of the local farmland, train line and overlooks a field which is used during the springtime by the local farmers to graze the newborn cattle and lambs. My own children spend hours commentating about the different wildlife and modes of transport they spot from the seat. The children will also have access to an outbuilding where they can play table tennis or pool, play shops/dress up, do arts and crafts or relax, watch the television and do their homework after school.
My home is in walking distance to the local golf course, waterfalls, Cairdie’s burn and monument at the top of Kildoon hill where we will spend many hours exploring and seeking adventures outdoors.
I will provide transport on days of inclement weather conditions however I am an energetic, outdoors person and I will encourage the children to walk to and from the school campus where possible promoting exercise into our daily routines.
I can provide healthy breakfast, lunch options and snacks after school, in line with nutritional standards as I am an approved Food Business Operator with South Ayrshire Council. Children can also bring lunch boxes if this is the child’s/carers preference.
After school activities primarily will take place within the family home/garden, the local park and library. Children will always be supervised.
I will ensure I am meeting the criteria set out by the SHANARRI principles and standards set out by the current Health and Social Care Standards: My Life, My support principal:
My Experience
I am an ex emergency service worker having served with the Police Service of Scotland for over 16 years. I predominantly worked in non-uniform roles specialising in child protection. I worked very closely with social work, health and education with a common goal of seeking better outcomes for vulnerable children and families and this is why I am keen to become a registered day carer for South Ayrshire Council.
I was also a community police officer for a few years where I had regular interaction with the local schools, nurseries and community groups, delivering presentations on the roles of the police, speak up to bullies, drug, alcohol awareness and online safety talks. I find it very easy to communicate and build rapport with all children and young persons and they often confide in me about other aspects in their life.
Prior to the Police I qualified as a dental nurse with the NHS Ayrshire and Arran where I completed my training within the community and private settings. I also trained as a Childsmile dental nurse as I enjoyed the interaction with the younger children in schools and nurseries, teaching them the importance of healthy eating and good oral hygiene habits.
Admittedly, I have pursued very different career paths in my life however it always leads me back to the same themes, children and family. Having two young children myself and tired of juggling shifts, childcare and family time I’ve decided to prioritise being more available for my own children and work from home as a child minder. I have an abundance of personal and professional transferable skills, and I am excited for a new pace of life and be more involved in the care, nurture and education of children and young persons in my care.
My Qualifications
As part of my pre-registration training, I successfully completed an online Childminding induction course approved by the Scottish Childminding Association. The course covered a wide range of subjects including child protection, health and safety, child development and behaviour management. I have completed Paediatric First Aid training for babies and young children. I have completed additional training in Food hygiene and infection control.
My Availability
Having worked in emergency services for many years and understanding the childcare challenges this brings, my aim is to offer parents a flexible round the clock service. My service will primarily be Monday to Friday between 8am to 6pm however should additional care be necessary out with these times; I will work additional hours and weekends when required. My care inspectorate registration conditions stipulate that I can also provide care for children overnight.
I will normally take five holiday weeks per year. My personal holidays will be given in advance with minimum of four weeks’ notice to allow you plenty of time to make other arrangements.
My holidays will be non-paid.
I am happy to work Public Holidays at double rate. No fee will be charged if you do not require care on a Public Holiday.
