My Summary
Passionate About Feeling Loved And Secure
About Me
I strongly believe that during the first 18 months babies need to feel loved and secure, that it sets the way they view the world.
I struggled with fertility issues for 8 years, during which time I experienced 6 miscarriages and a stillbirth, losing my first son in my third trimester. So when I finally managed to make it to 35 weeks with my second son, it was really hard to visit him in the NICU every day and then go home at night, to wake up every 4 hours to express in order to ensure that my milk supply came in despite being unable to feed him until he was 12 days old.
My son is now 16 years old and I was fortunate to have been able to be a full-time mum to him when he was a baby and then worked part-time when he started school. He's now finishing his GCSE's and ready to move into the next stage of his life so I'd like to use my next phase helping parents with babies to navigate the first months and beyond.
My Experience
As a maternity nurse I work with both mum and baby. This can be to assist with caring for both mum and her newborn after the birth, or to take care of a number of aspects of the baby’s care to afford mum the much needed rest she needs to recover.
As a nanny, I ensure that the babies and toddlers in my care get the same compassion and nurturing they get from their parents. Ideally I prefer to first build a bond with both mum and child as this greatly reduces the trauma of being separated for the first time.
I offer either a home-away-from-home environment at my house or at-home care. I will work with you to fully understand your parenting style, routines and individual needs.
My most recent role has been nanny / childminder to a gorgeous little girl who is almost ready for nursery. Over the past 8 months I've been a consistent carer to her, integrating into the family routines and offering continuation of care, giving her mum the peace of mind that she's felt loved and cared for when she returned to work.
I am currently in the process of registering as a childminder with Ofsted through the Bradford Council so that I will be able to assist with claiming the government childcare hours for any childminding I do.
My Qualifications
I have completed:
Child Development: 0 to 5 years
Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) in the early years
Meeting the EYFS welfare requirements as a childminder
Safeguarding Children: Early Years and Childcare Providers
Pediatric First Aid
I am currently completing my level 3 maternity nurse (non-medical) postnatal care qualification through NEST.
I previously completed my teaching assistant qualification training but couldn't complete the formal assessments due to Covid. I then decided the formal education setting wasn't for me, but am glad to have completed the coursework as well as the in-classroom work experience as it gave me really good insight into the inner workings of the primary school education system.

Susan has been amazing, helping to care for my daughter at home since she was five months old both when I'm out and when I'm home but need support while juggling three kids, my work and studies. She even joined me on a residential retreat, which allowed me to participate in sessions without undue separation overnight. Susan is nurturing, kind and very patient, a "baby whisperer" with a knack for soothing my daughter to sleep. She has listened to and followed my preferences regarding all aspects of my daughter's care. She has taken my daughter to soft play centres and baby groups at the local church. My only regret with Susan is that I did not call on her in my earliest postpartum days when my husband was working a night shift and I was struggling to cope overnight! It would have been amazing to have the extra support from the very beginning.
