My Experience

I used to work at the Gruffalo and Friends Clubhouse, and here I worked with children. I would be in charge of "play hosting", where I would come up with fun games to play and make sure everyone was safe. I would also read stories in an engaging way.

Being vigilant throughout shows to make sure people in the seating area are not recording and safe.
Working as a team with paid staff members by communicating if there is an issue.

Energetically meeting parents and children at the door and communicating where they need to go.
Being a “play host” where I would walk around the play area, making sure everyone is safe and reporting any issues to management.
Coming up with fun games and activities to make sure visitors have the best time possible.
I would often have to work as a team, as I often had to be in a costume character suit with impaired vision or assist someone in the costume. This meant we had to have a system of communicating with each other that doesn’t use language. We also had to work as a team to handle any disputes between children in the play area.
I would dance in front of and entertain a crowd of children. Making sure that I’m animated and engaging. This developed my performance and communication skills.
I did story times where I would read a story to a group of children in an engaging way.
I had to make sure I was energetic and positive at every moment so children and parents would feel comfortable speaking to me if they had any issues.

I got to tap into my creativity as I often got to design displays that made the objects in the shop look as appealing as possible.
Working with money and cash machines.
Communicating with customers by recommending items to them. Often upselling them and convincing them to add more to their purchase.
Working as a team with my managers to unpack boxes, check stock and work at the counter.
Being a happy, energetic presence to give the customers the best experience possible.

Blackpool Sixth Form, Blackpool old Road- Volunteer Library Assistant
This helped me develop my organisational skills as I learned the Dewey decimal system so that books were put in the correct places.
I had to effectively communicate with customers, often recommending them books or explaining how the library system works.
Working as a team with the library staff to organise small events that took place in the library.
I developed my creativity by making displays for the library that would draw people in and make them want to read.
I often would walk around asking people to do surveys and this helped me develop my communication skills.
