Hi, My name is Mel Collins, I live in Tilehurst, with my Husband and two daughters aged 17 and 20yrs and my granddaughter. I have been an Ofsted registered Childminder for 12 years and at my inspection in July 2012, April 2015, February 2018 and November 2023 I was awarded GOOD. Myself, my husband and my daughters have a full DBS check and I am paediatric first aid trained.
As I have used two childminders myself for my own children I feel I know how hard it is to leave a child and trust someone to look after them, due to this I know what I expected from my childminder and I aim to provide the same high standard of care for the children in my home.
I will follow the EYFS framework to help the children with their learning and development. I track your child's progress and complete next steps. I keep in contact daily sending pictures via Whatsapp so you can see what your child is getting up to and that they are happy and having fun.
I offer a comfortable, happy, fun and safe environment for the children to learn in. I offer activities including messy play, crafts, and I have lots of different toys, puzzles and books. I take the children to the park, toddler groups, other settings and we also take trips on the bus and the train into Reading to visit the Museum and many other outings.
We have a dog called Rocky who is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
My Experience
I have been a childminder for 12 years and over that time I have looked after children ranging from birth to 10 years.
I helped a friend by looking after her daughter while she was at work for 6 months. I also looked after my cousins little boy 3 days a week until he went to Nursery before I started childminding.
I have volunteered as a teaching assistant at my daughters previous school.
During this time I studied from home and received a level 2 qualification as a teaching assistant.
I have worked as a lunchtime controller at a local school.
I have studied from home and completed a Level 3 course in childcare.
I have a diploma in Child Psychology and am currently studying Psychology with the Open University.

My opening hours are 7.30am - 5.30pm however I can be flexible if needed.

My Fees
- Babysitting from £9.00 per hour
- Childminding from £5.75 per hour
I charge £6.00 an hour
Morning and afternoon snacks are included in the charge as well as Toddler groups that I go to but I ask for parents to provide lunch and nappies.

Mel is very understanding and professional, My little girl took to her and her setting almost immediately. Her setting is lovely and clean. The communication is fantastic and all the information and forms are all professionally put together and passed over. My little girl starts on Tuesday and I am very glad to have found Mel.

Mel was very understanding towards my situation. She took great care of my son who always had a smile on his face, my son developed well while in the care of Mel from when he was 3 months old which to me proved that she had great interaction with the kids. Mel managed very well looking after a baby that naturally demands attention and other children. She always took the children out for toddler groups allowing social skills to develop well. I would definitely recommend her no matter what age your child is.
