My Summary
About Me
I`m a registered childminder in the Bishopbriggs/Woodhill area of Glasgow. I am registered with the Care Inspectorate and SCSWIS, the governing body for care services in Scotland.
I am married to Eddie and have a daughter who is 17yrs old and attends The City of Glasgow College and a son who is 21 and graduating from Glasgow University soon. We also have a friendly family dog called Oscar, who is a Cockapoo so non casting.
I have been a childminder for over 20 years and enjoy what I do. I achieved a Grade 5 ( very good ) at my most recent inspection. Most of my children have came to me through word of mouth and recommendations. The children that come to my home feel safe + happy and have an opportunity to build new friendships with the other children. My own children welcome the little ones as their extended family and I treat them all equally.
We are out and about every day and make the most of our local parks and the library. I take the children to toddlers and playgroups most mornings. This is a great way for the children to socialise with others and make new friends. I plan daily activities and rotate the toys I have out on a weekly basis to keep the children stimulated. We read story books daily (which the older children like to help with) and we love to do arts and crafts (birthday cards etc.) We are within walking distance to a couple of swingparks and the school.
When the weather is not so good they enjoy, indoor games and activities like board games, Lego and other construction toys, or just whatever they fancy at the time.
I have a network of other childminder friends who we meet up with at toddlers, softplay etc therefore allowing the children to mix and play with the other children in different settings and the other childminders are familiar adults in the case of an emergency.
My aim is to provide the children with a' home from home' environment where they will have lots to do and have fun while they're learning.
I 'record' the childrens progress with observations and photos in an 'all about me' folder that the parents can see and follow as they grow. I also record the children's development/ achievements in line with the GIRFEC wellbeing indicators. Each child has their own folder.
My Experience
Other than the experience gained as a mum I have done various training courses and continue to source new training opportunities. I most recently updated my Child protection in March 2023 and a have done a one day first aid refresher course in October 2021 Both valid for 3yrs.
I have references from my parents that can be seen on request.
I encourage parents to visit a few times before starting a placement and have a settling in period. I feel it is important to have a good relationship with parents and I make time to chat to them about their child's day. If we are stuck for time I will send a whatsapp relaying their day.
I also have experience and some knowledge of diabetes as one of my previous after school children is insulin dependant.
