My Summary
About Me
For nearly 20 years, I have worked in Education Support. This has been in Primary, Secondary and FE sectors. I have much SEN experience and love inspiring students to achieve success. Encouraging them to persevere through their difficulties, utilising various techniques gives me tremendous satisfaction.
I love working with children and have regularly been employed to work with small groups or 1:1. Predominantly, I was responsible for planning and delivering lessons to support statemented children. In addition, I took sessions to consolidate class teaching, taught Letters and Sounds, Phonics, delivered Guided Reading sessions and organised weekly times tables tests for a whole year group.
Whilst I am not a fully qualified teacher, I did complete the 1st year of the B.Ed (Hons) in Primary Education. I have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the essential basics of Maths and English - more than some teachers I've worked with! I also am very familiar with current teaching methods: something which often hinders parents helping their own children as 'it's not like when we were at school'!
I am passionate in my work, particularly when it comes to maths, and love to share my enthusiasm with reluctant or unconfident learners. I utilise a range of methods and resources to help a child understand and gain confidence.
I have always been able to develop a good rapport with the children I work with, gaining and giving respect and making them feel that what they have to contribute is important.
I have previously assisted two children (ages 7 and 12) with homework and other activities to support their school targets. I have tutored 2 children during the school holidays, both online and face to face. Also provided tutor support to adults. More recently, I have tutored 3 primary aged children (5, 6 and 8), working on Phonics and basic maths skills.
