My Summary
About Me
I plan and deliver regular Maths and ESOL courses in class. I also provide 1-1 teaching and mentoring, face-to-face and on-line. I am a native English speaker, and I speak Italian.
When I plan courses, I combine the demands of the curriculum with individual student needs. I am patient and flexible, and good at developing students' confidence. I want them to develop an understanding of the subject as well as prepare for exams.
I teach people across a range of different backgrounds, nationalities and age groups, including young learners. I bring a lot of variety to the classroom, as well as traditional types of exercise, to encourage students' interest and independent learning. In both Maths and English classes, I like to see students working together in small groups, collaboratively and communicatively.
I also offer 1-1 classes both on-line and face-to-face. This can be short-term exam preparation or longer-term support, for KS3, GCSE and A-level students. For maths, on-line lessons can be more convenient, as there is no travel. Young learners especially are used to this way of working, and can find it less intense. Lessons take place via Zoom so that the student and I can both write and sketch free-hand on a shared whiteboard, as if we were sat together at the same desk.
I offer ESOL/EFL classes. These can be 1-1 or with small groups, often to improve fluency in spoken English, but I can help you with any aspect of English language.
I have 20 years experience in teaching. I have an Enhanced CRB Disclosure document.
I generally get on well with people, and enjoy mixing in all sorts of situations. Partly for this reason, I like travelling. A love of Italy, and an interest in languages, has prompted me to study Italian. I like listening to many types of music, from Baroque to Beefheart, and hearing about its history. I also like reading about the history of mathematics, and walking on the South Downs in Sussex.
