About Me

I moved to Thrapston seven years ago after living in Sandhurst for over 25 years. I have 2 children, or should I say, young adults! A son and a daughter.

My childminding business is called Cheeky Monkeys. I love outdoor spaces to monkey around in and this is reflected in my business when I try to ensure an outdoor activity every day.

I operate my business with a strong work ethic and high standards when it comes to the care and safety of children, but equally my positive attitude to life means that I am fun loving too.

I cover all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage focusing on the individual needs and interests of each child and plan activities to support these preferences. I offer a warm, friendly, loving and safe environment inwhich the children in my care quickly feel they really belong. They are all special, important and are treated with respect. I have rules, as any home does, the children are involved in making these and with clear, consistant guidance, being aware of the boundaries, creates a feeling of security and belonging.

My practice tries to mimic routines similar to those in the child's home environment whenever possible. Daily discussions and diaries help to keep clear lines of communication open.

I am often out and about visiting local parks, woods, libraries, shops, drop ins, rivers/lakes, science centres, museums and other places of interest. In school holiday periods I take the opportunity to travel further as there are fewer time constraints so we visit places such as the beach, country parks, farms, zoos and railways to name a few. The children and I make full use of the beautiful countryside we are so lucky to have on our doorstep.

Most of all I want your children to feel comfortable and safe and free to express themselves whilst having huge amounts of FUN in the process!

I have no pets, not that I don't like animals, I am just a very busy person.

Work takes up a huge part of my live but I like to relax by going out for meals, cinema, theatre, bowling, swimming, country music festivals, all the usual things. I sing in a 5 piece band as lead vocalist.

So that's a bit about me and what you can expect. If I haven't already bored you to tears....please read on!

My Experience

I have worked in Childcare one way or another since I was 16 ( such a long time ago!) when I had a holiday job working in a playschool in Fleet, Hampshire and various families whom I would babysit for.

Once I left school I attended Basingstoke Technical College to take a couple of A levels and then went on to completing my NNEB certification. Once qualified, I worked as a daily Nanny for 2 children aged 4 and 1 years in Mychett.

Then I started my own family, This is when I realised that having your own children is absolutely nothing like caring for other people's children! Huge wake up call! But invaluable experience for later years when I was ready to re-enter the world of childcare. Whilst my children were young I worked night shifts, firstly, at a care home for the elderly in Sandhurst, then later at Tesco.

In January 2000 I embarked on a childminding career, my children were that much older so introducing other children to our home worked really well. And I haven't looked back.
