My Summary
Caring, Home From Home, Nature Inspired, Experienced Childcare
About Me
I accept funding and term time only places (no holiday fees). No hidden charges. Currently Ofsted graded Good, twice previously Outstanding.
I am a Hygge in the Early Years registered setting (we embrace cosiness, nature and are child led, following an awe and wonder approach), I have an English degree and I am Forest School Leader trained- we love our walks, allotment and being outdoors. I have completed the Level 3 Early Years Special Educational Needs Coordinator training.
Would you like your little one to join in with us? We have fun with child led activities like jumping in puddles, discovering their favourite stick (very important object here!), going for a bear hunt in the woods, greeting our allotment robin, looking for mini-beasts or digging up potatoes (and wiggly worms) on our allotment we share with another childminder. We also love painting, singing rhymes, doing yoga, joining in our library zoom sessions, building towers, racing cars, looking after our pets or snuggling down and reading a book together.
I welcome Free Entitlement Fund (FEF) for eligible 2 and 3-4 year olds (either 15 or 30 free hours) as well as tax free childcare and families on universal credits. I will expand my funded places in-line with the Government's roll out plans too.
I continously update my own professional development. I am currently completing the Early Years Professional Development Programme and the Wellcomm speech and language training plus I have recently completed my SENCO training and Makaton level 1 to aid communication for all children (and its lots of fun, after all we all love Mr Tumble).
If you would like to know more then please drop me a message and I will reply shortly. Many thanks, Rachael
My Experience
I have childminded since my children were born- 29 years experience and still loving it! I network with other childminders, which means that I keep up to date on changing legislation and undertake extra training each year. I am a Gold member of Childcare.co.uk too.
I deliver the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) based on current observations so that we can plan the best next steps. I encourage parents to join in by sharing any developments (wow moments!) or even just their child's current favourite toy/theme- you know your child best. We share these through your child's WhatsApp family chat where I add mini photos of activities,so you can share and reflect as a family.
I have gained a lot of experience from my own five children, youngest now 16, and my granddaughter too.
My current families have been here for between 1-3 years now. This is really rewarding as I develop a good bond with the parents and children (continuity of care).
I have experience of my own children that are gifted and talented. I also have experience of children with special educational needs, particularly children with autism, down syndrome, non-verbal, with twins, breastfed babies, different ethnic backgrounds, religions, dietary needs- nut allergies and food intolerance. I am happy to take on additional training and advice to meet a child's individual needs.
I have a wide range of good quality toys/ resources for both childminding- giving the children a wide range of opportunities to learn and have fun.
I also have lots of volunteer experience working with children- helping school groups and as a school governor, running a community Martial Arts group and volunteer on boards such as youth board for the Lindley Trust.
My Qualifications
I have NVQ Level 3 in Early Years and Education (Childcare)- this is the level Ofsted like all childminders to achieve. I have also completed and kept up to date: Emergency First Aid, Safeguarding children, Health & Safety Level 2 and Food Hygiene Level 2.
I have a 2:1 BA (Hons) in English Language & Literature degree with the Open University.
I am a Level 3 Forest School Leader, delivering fun outdoor activities for my minded children
I continuously update my professional development for example I have completed my Early Years SENCO Level 3, Makaton level 1, Early Years Professional Development Programme and Wellcomm Speech and language training. I am currently completing my Elklan Speech and Language Support level 3.
I keep up to date with many locally delivered childcare courses aimed for delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage- every child a talker (ECAT), empathy dolls, visual symbols, observations and assessments, outdoor play, Phase 1 Phonics, ready steady sign, to name but a few. I also do several online courses including 'Prevent duty', 'Allergens' and 'Female genital mutilation' (FGM).
I have completed the Open University course 'Understanding the autism spectrum'.
I have several other qualifications including 6 O'Levels, 2 A'Levels, ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence), NEBSM management course and NVQ Level 4 in (adult) training, development and assessment.

Rachael has looked after both our children in one form or another. They've come on in leaps and bounds including our little boy becoming a little less frightened of dogs! After a bad previous experience my daughter was very anxious but soon settled with Rachael and just flourished. Hence when we needed our boy looked after we asked Rachael straight away. I can't recommend Rachael enough, if we weren't moving away we would still be using her. Just be ready for washing all those muddy clothes...but the children love it and now I have a very enthusiastic tiny mud lover!!
