What does this mean for partners and carers?

Many people ask why use a childminder? And I’m often at a loss to describe what a childminder is…
I would often just say I’m like a nursery but work from home, I work with an assistant called Beth…

Well I have decided the best way to explain what a childminder means to parents and the children that use my childcare services is let you read the statements they have wrote….

• Lorna’s setting is like a home from home. I know my little one is well looked after and cared for. Lorna and her team ensure the children she cares for are prepared for their next steps into reception developing their skills in communication, numeracy, literacy and much more. My son receives home cooked healthy food and has never once made a complaint or "not wanted to go to Lorna’s today". I would highly recommend Lorna’s childcare services. LE-Mam

• D**** always feels happy smiles and says hello whenever he sees the girls and is always happy to go...They make you feel very comfortable and at ease knowing that your child is well looked after and they are always happy to have a conversation about your child always letting you know about what they have done and what they have ate lovely childcare provider x MS -Mam

• T*** loves attending your service, he is always very excited when he knows it's a Lorna and Beth day. I love the varied days he has with u... from visiting the care home to going on the train, to playing in the garden, he is always full of stories when he comes home.
I recommend the service to anyone who is looking for childcare. I tell them how well T*** has come along with his eating and learning since starting at Lorna’s last November.

• It is difficult for us to compare with other childcare providers as we have only ever used Lorna's. When we visited we were impressed with the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. L**** has the opportunity to play and learn in a safe and stimulating environment. The approach to care is a good mix of relaxed common sense and structure. When extra care is needed (such as special dietary requirements) Lorna was supportive and able to implement these with no trouble. We love the WhatsApp communication which keeps us involved in our son's daily adventures.
Our childminder has given us a friendly home from home and extended family for our little boy. WM&DM -Parents

• We chose Lorna to provide wrap around care for our two boys as the care she provides is second to none. We love the relaxed home setting for them to return back to from school and she is so accommodating if either of them chooses to attend an after-school club which wasn’t possible to do in other childcare settings - this is great for us as a family. We know our boys are well looked after whilst there and they both love going to Lorna’s. The support she can provide to us as parents has helped keep us both sane too! DW&JE - Parents

• Lorna creates an environment that is full of fun and love amongst education and learning. Children learn a sense of their own responsibility and understanding towards others and the world around them. Lorna and Beth’s enthusiasm, exceptionally high level of care, flexibility and ability to provide a ‘home from home’ for my children allows me to go to work without worry. HS - Mam

• I would say the thing that makes you both stand out for me from others, is the personal touch, you both genuinely care so much for the children you look after it that it doesn't feel like you are sending them to childcare but rather a family member.
They are best around, kind, patient and my little one has great fun with Lorna and Beth, but also has learnt so much from them in academic and social skills. Wouldn't go anywhere else now I've used you. CB&RH - Parents

• Sending M***** into childcare from 16 weeks old was a hard decision however from the moment we walked in I knew it was the right place. You have a very friendly & welcoming atmosphere and made us feel instantly at ease. You are both very personable and great with a baby, even if she can be a diva at times (she must get that from her dad!) The facilities that you have, from the play room to the garden space is great. We have loved some of the experiences the kids get to explore, seeing the fire engines, butterfly’s etc. With it being a lot smaller than a nursery I know M***** is well looked after, and I believe the interaction really is helping with her development.
Very friendly and interactive with the kids, great facilities and plenty to keep them entertained.

• I found that I liked the idea of a home environment for my child but with plenty of activities and other children around, your setting seems to be the best of both worlds not quite a nursery but not quiet one to one all day like some providers I found. Beth and Lorna are excellent with F** and I was very worried returning to work after my first child this was all very new and daunting for us, I needn’t have worried one bit as flow loved it pretty much from the off and I know she is having the best days at setting, she has come on so much. I love the updates and pictures throughout the day I receive of her, keep up the great work thank you x LH – Mam

• My little boy has been cared for by Lorna since he was a year old and we all love the home-based family feel that is her approach. Lorna and Beth provide an excellent mix of child-centred activities, setting positive boundaries and encouraging each child to grow in confidence. My son benefits from socialising with the older children before and after school and the pre-school programme is a good mix of semi-structured learning and lots of outdoor and imaginative play. We are very grateful for all Lorna does to support our whole family and provide our son with excellent care. MB - Mum

• When I first met Lorna my eldest was around 7 months. I was a single mum who use to go to every playgroup going. Lorna was there with a small group of children her firm but fair approach to her own group and interaction with them I just knew I wanted her to look after my special little lady. unfortunately, Lorna was so popular it took another couple of months before Autumn could go. Now my other little girl is a regular at Lorna’s and I don't know what I will do when it's her time to go. Lorna and Beth are like family their dedication and support to my girls is outstanding. Their knowledge to help children develop is bar none. I know once my little ones walk through Lorna’s door they were going to have an education, fun, new experiences, enjoyable day in a home-based setting. • You couldn't stand out from any other childcare providers because your already at the top you go above and beyond for each child and parents too, and what I would say is just look at my child because without the help of you and Beth he wouldn't be where he is today and I want to thank you both from the bottom of my heart for what you've done for R***** and the help and support you've given me as well you’re not just out for the children but for families too and I wish you both the very best of luck for the future xx LL - Mam

• At first, I was very apprehensive about sending to J**** to Childcare. However, after visiting Lorna's I knew straight away that was where I wanted J**** to go. It is like a home from home for him. J**** has grown very fond of Lorna and Beth and he often talks about his times at Childcare I can see a huge change in J**** from the day he started. He now looks forward to going and like to ring the doorbell when he arrives. I would highly recommend Lorna's to all my friends and family. She provides a lovely environment for the children. • I believe for us the main stand out point is that a childminder for E***** it is like a home from home, she is comfortable and confident in your home and I believe your childcare setting provides the correct balance between being at home whilst learning and developing amongst other children from a range of different ages.
I would say that you are very flexible and are able to work around both the needs of the parents and children, you have been able to help out when due to sickness and work commitments we have been left struggling to get childcare on the days E***** isn’t in Childcare. We feel very comfortable discussing issues regarding E*****’s development with you and really feel that we are working together to get the best for E*****. KS – Mam

• Your childcare stands out because its cost effective, Flexible, WhatsApp messages / daily updates, personal reports when requested (we love the idea of involving parents more in nursery activities/drop in sessions that you discussed the other day). Recommendation – since E***** has started we have found she has grown to be a very smart, polite and confident little girl, she has really come out of her shell. I know this is down to the help, support and development given to Emilie every time she’s at nursery. We feel comfortable discussing and asking for advice in relation to Emilie. I could not recommend Lorna and Beth’s child care services enough. DS - Dad

• You are the step-in mammy & daddy’s for when we can’t be there and I truly believe we have chosen the best people to look after our little girl when we have to work. AD – Nanna

• Lorna has been our childminder for seven years, which speaks volumes for its self. During that time Lorna (and then Beth) have provided love, support, care, and lots of laughter for my girls. In her home the girls have grown and flourished into kind, caring, well-mannered children, Lorna has at times been referred to as 'spare mam', high praise indeed. On a practical note, over the years Lorna has supported my freelance career offering flexible childcare to fit changing work demands. We of course highly recommend Lorna and Beth and look forward to seeing them in the holidays.

• I like to come to Lorna’s as she cooks nice food, there are fun treats, including a bouncy castle sometimes. Lots of things to do and space to play. And a room full of toys. Lorna and Beth keep me safe and help me not to do things wrong that will get me wrong! ME -aged 11 years

• I like coming to Lorna’s because we have movie Friday and nice food, its nicer than the nursery I used to go to.If I didn’t come anymore I’d miss being outside and the “tree-house”. BS aged 8 years

• If I couldn’t come to Lorna’s anymore I’d miss my friends. I like the routine so I know what time tea is and when to do things. I would tell my friends about the good food and being outside in the garden. LT aged 8 years
