About Me
*Full time spaces now available*. 15 and 30 hour funding available as well tax free childcare and vouchers accepted. At our outstanding setting.
welcome to Elflins outdoor based early years setting. I am an Ofsted registered childminder we have recently had our OFSTED grading and received outstanding. I have over 10 years of childcare experience and a level 3 in children and young people's workforce. I work with 2 assistants and an apprentice. We are based in Tidworth.
Elflin’s early years educator and childminding
Because we are OFSTED registered, we are required to follow the EYFS, which allows us to monitor the children's progress and development. This also ensures we uphold the same safety and quality of teaching as nurseries. Thus, ensuring your children get the best quality of care and learning opportunities in a safe environment, purpose built with the children in mind.
We are able to care for up to 6 children each. By keeping our staff to child ratio low, I feel that the quality of care the children receive is enhanced. This means that new children settle quickly and build good relationships with familiar adults and their peers. Another benefit of our ratio is that children are able to develop their social skills in readiness for school.
What’s great about the setting is that it allows us essentially to run as a small private nursery catering for ages 0-5. We are bridging the gap by offering everything a nursery does whilst maintaining a comforting and safe environment where children can flourish and the flexibility that we childminders offer.
At Elflin’s we believe that every day is a learning day!
Whilst I do ensure there is always an invitations to play activity on the go, I strongly believe that free play is crucial for our little ones as they can learn so much from their own investigations and imaginative play and we will not take them away from this crucial learning and development to engage in adult learning. We are fortunate to have a continuous provision allowing children the choice of resources and activities that are always available to them. We believe children should have the freedom to choose where their learning will take them, and we plan based on the children's age and interests. Because if a child is interested, they will engage well in an activity and they will not even realise they are learning, this applies to all of the 7 areas of learning that we focus on.
At Elflin’s we LOVE to spend as much time outside as possible and again we have a passion and a strong belief of the importance in spending as much time outside as possible come rain or shine, there is a lot of research proving the benefits of outside play especially if it involves being barefoot! OFSTED also state that children must spend at least 3 hours a day outdoors. With all that in mind you may be able to see why I have developed a free-flowing setting allowing the children to spend as much time outside as they desire, with all outdoor resources enhancing the indoors resources continuous learning is always available.
We also have a great love of books at Elflin’s and they are a huge focus in the setting!
For those who enjoy messy play there are plenty of messy play areas available including digging in the sand, mud patch and growing vegetables with plenty of mark making and painting available! But be warned it does get messy! Spare set of clothes and wellies are a MUST!
As I hope you can see there is a lot of focus on nature at Elflin’s which includes lots of nature walks and exploring in the woods. Along with this we have a forest school corner to develop our nature and forest skills.
We have an easy to follow routine. As I know most young children thrive on a routine and like to know what to expect in their day however, it has flexibility to allow individuality for each child. This ensures children really engage in their surroundings and enjoy the moment. All activities are based on an invitation to play format which essentially means we set up activities that are engaging to children and are focused on learning however, they are never forced activities therefore the children use their own independence to have a go at the activities as and when they feel. Everything we set up or have available for the children follows the EYFS and supports your individual child's age and development!
We encourage and promote independence with the children throughout their time with us to allow school readiness.
Our outings include going to the library, woodland walks, parks and much more as you can see from our page. Which are all included in our fees. I also speak fluent French which I integrate into your child's everyday learning. We do have a huge focus on communication in the setting and always encourage our little people to use their fantastic developing communication skills using Makton.
Please be aware that we mainly work from the outside cabin and not in my house so it is a little different to most childminder settings, having said this my ethos at Elflin's is to make the setting feel like a 2nd home for your child where your child can flourish, grow and feel loved and always cared for. So, you can feel reassured that your child is in a safe, loving and caring environment where their needs are always met and where you know they feel loved and secure. Which we believe is clear from the way in which children settle quickly and quickly become a part of the Elflin family.
I like to follow a gentle discipline approach where thinking is VERY rarely used and only in extreme situations and age appropriate. Distraction and explanation will always be our preferred pathway. We also baby wear and will do so with your child if permitted. Children will always get the care and love they need and a kind and listening ear.
Feel free to contact me with any questions, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks, Carly Webb

Carly has been looking after my little boy since he was 19 months old and I cannot recommend her highly enough. We looked at a lot of childminders and this was the first place that we felt instantly comfortable with. Carly is warm and friendly and great with children. You can tell that she genuinely enjoys looking after them. The setting is lovely. Off the beaten track but near enough to Street, Glastonbury, etc. There are lots of fun things to do in the garden and the kids get outdoor time nearly every chance the weather lets them. There are ducks and also a sweet, friendly, gentle dog to play with. They go on lots of walks to see farm animals, the woods, blackberry picking, etc.
On rainy days, there are lots of indoor art activities, messy play, and also cuddles on the sofa reading stories.
Carly regularly takes them on outings to toddler groups, parks etc. My little one is always exhausted and happy when he gets home. Oh and Carly picks him up and drops him off every day which is AMAZING.
Carly uses an online system for admin which means you get an online diary entry everyday letting you know what they've been up to (sometimes with photos!). This is really useful as sometimes pick up/drop off time can be hectic so hard to chat! Really easy to get a hold of via phone or email.
To sum up, if you're looking for a home away from home environment where your little one can flourish, then look no further.
