My Summary
About Me
I believe in developing good relationships and recognising and fostering individual strengths. I enjoy establishing an environment and ethos where ideas are stimulated and can be explored, expressed and received in a respectful way. I can hold boundaries with patience and humour. I am professional, responsible, well-organised and hard-working.
During Covid 19 , I gave Maths and English tuition to a 14 year old boy.
I also trained to be a SAVTE volunteer, (Sheffield Association for the Voluntary Teaching of English), during this time and delivered online sessions to my client in Burngreave and her small children.
I have worked for various theatre companies in most roles and toured schools with 'Theatre-in Education' shows. I particularly enjoy directing, devising, writing but also have experience as performer, musician and backstage.
I have a background in Storytelling and am currently seeking an agent for my first historical fantasy novel. I love reading, playing & inventing games. I also enjoy outdoor activities and sport. I am currently in a female duo who gig extensively in the UK.
In September I will be starting an MA in Music performance, Production and Business at Waterbear Music College.
My Experience
I have been teaching in primary school since 1991. I have taught at many schools in the city delivering the National Curriculum & Key Stage 2 SATs. I have also taught the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence in a remote, off-grid composite 5-14 school, as well as supply in lots of Highland primary schools, including teaching for the Scottish SAT equivalent, (P7 assessments).
My most recent teaching job was a post in a Sheffield primary school, where I worked with Y3 and Y4. (I left to care for my Mum whilst doing some supply.) I was responsible for music and training staff and pupils in 'Mantle of the Expert'. I have had responsibility for developing Literacy, Drama, Dance, Circle Time, Music and PE. I have run sports clubs, devised and directed plays for all sorts of occasions including Sheffield Children's Festival at the Crucible Theatre. I hired Nuala for several weeks recently after moving house and waiting for Sheffield LEA to assign a school place. We both had flexible schedules that have worked well together.
My daughter has ASD and can be very particular about whom she likes to spend time with. She is excited every morning when Nuala arrives for playtime. Nuala is very calm, and patient and engages her with conversations and questions about what they are doing. I can tell my daughter is very comfortable around her from the noises I can hear from my office upstairs.
My daughter described her as a friend a few days ago, which is high praise.

Response by Nuala on 13/05/2024:
Thank you, Rachel. I really enjoy coming to spend time with your daughter. I'm learning lots whilst engaged in play and conversation and developing connection. I always leave with a big smile and look forward to the next session. Thank you also for your big smile and welcome. I think we all work well together.
